The 49ers played the second half of Sundays 20-10 win over the Browns without starting DE Ray McDonald, who left the game with a hamstring injury. McDonald was walking without a limp after the game, a sign that the hamstring strain isnt serious. If he misses next weeks game against the Redskins, Rick Jean Francois, who filled in Sunday, would start at left end. Jean Francois is tough and reliable, but he is not the pass-rush threat McDonald is.

Brooks gets lip
So what do you get when you run face first into a tackle without a helmet. For linebacker Ahmad Brooks, the resulting split lip means no going out after the game, no television interviews and maybe no kisses from his girl friend.

Video: Alex Smith finds new targets in offensive, defensive tackles
Quarterback Alex Smith of the San Francisco 49ers has finally seen enough of the light after a disappointing start to his career to be among the top half of quarterbacks in the NFL. For the stat freaks
