Found October 17, 2012 on Pro Sports Daily:
The 49ers are 4-2 and widely hailed as one of the best teams in the NFC. Outside the locker room, it might feel more like 2-4, particularly after the Giants blasted them 26-3 on Sunday in a rematch of the NFC Championship game. They have been nothing if not enigmatic with blow out wins over the Bills and Jets and then manhandling at the hands of the Vikings and Giants. The 49ers will see how they fare in their own division with three games stacked up against NFC Western division rivals starting with the Seahawks at home on Thursday night. In their losses, the 49ers played their worst games of the 24-game Jim Harbaugh era, particularly against the Giants, which was supposed to be their time to prove they should have been in last year's Super Bowl. The team should have been highly motivated and instead came out flat. If there's a pattern to the losses, it's that the 49ers lose the battle in the trenches, and then have no capacity to pass their way back in the game...

Jim Harbaugh declines safety against Seahawks, affects outcome for gamblers

The Seahawks put the final nail in their coffin on Thursday night when they were called for a holding penalty in their own end zone with under a minute left to play, giving the Niners a two-possession lead. Or, should we say, it would have given San Francisco a two-possession lead had Jim Harbaugh not declined the penalty. The play also happened to be 4th down, and Seattle came up...

Safer than a safety: Jim Harbaugh’s decision to decline the Seahawks penalty

Relax everyone. Declining the safety makes sense. Yes, it may have screwed your 49ers to cover pick, and yes, taking points off the board seems to fly in the face of conventional wisdom but Jim Harbaugh’s decision to decline the penalty was the right one. I may be overreacting to a small sample size, but, …

49ers quickly turn focus from Giants to Seahawks

Jim Harbaugh didn't spend any time wallowing Monday after the most lopsided loss in his two seasons as coach of the San Francisco 49ers. He has only three days to prepare his team for Thursday's key NFC West game against Seattle, and he might have to do it without the services of Pro Bowl offensive tackle Joe Staley. Staley is visiting a neurologist after suffering a concussion...

Harbaugh: 'It was a real football fight'

Coach Jim Harbaugh gives his takes on the game after the 49ers’ 13-6 victory over the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday night at Candlestick Park.

How will Ravens overcome injuries?

John Harbaugh confirmed that both linebacker Ray Lewis and cornerback Lardarius Webb will miss the remainder of the season, although the Baltimore Ravens head coach did his best to make Monday's grim announcement feel like a normal news conference rather than a wake. "There have been many, many times our defense carried a heavy, heavy burden over the years," Harbaugh...

Niners look to regain control in NFC West

Last October, the 49ers were all alone in first place and already on their way to winning the NFC West title in commanding fashion in coach Jim Harbaugh's first season. That's hardly the case this year as they prepare for their division opener at home Thursday night against the Seattle Seahawks.

Ray Lewis tells Haloti Ngata, 'I'll be back, don't worry'

NFL veteran Ray Lewis suffered a torn triceps Sunday that put him on the Baltimore Ravens' injured reserve list leaving fans wondering if he would ever return.Ravens coach John Harbaugh gave fans some hope when he announced Lewis would be placed on injured reserve with the "designated to return" tag."I have no idea, we have no idea, whether that timeframe has anything...

49ers make just enough plays, hold off Seahawks

Jim Harbaugh's San Francisco 49ers sure have a knack for leaving tough losses behind. They've never lost two games in a row under the reigning NFL Coach of the Year. This time, the 49ers had all of four days and no choice but to forget in a hurry; first place in the NFC West was on the line. Alex Smith threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to Delanie Walker late in the third...

The Hollow Mockery Week 6 Part I: Harbaugh's Grudge

Another week of football is in the books, and we are left to sort through the indecipherable results. Only two teams in the AFC having winning records and Jonna Chizik is locked in a desperate cosmic battle with Satan, who has orchestrated numerous Auburn loses this year. Well, we all have our own mystic difficulties and most of mine aren’t as simple as winning a football game...

Adaptability serves Ravens well

It may be an antiquated formula for most teams in the NFL today, but running the ball and playing great defense has been Baltimore's formula of success for the past decade. Not anymore. The Ravens are running the ball for an average of just over 112 yards per game while their defense ranks 26th in total yards and 26th against the rush. This may be unfamiliar statistical territory...

Seahawks visit 49ers in key NFC West matchup

Last October, the San Francisco 49ers were all alone in first place and already on their way to winning the NFC West title in commanding fashion in coach Jim Harbaugh's first season. That's hardly the case this year as they prepare for their division opener at home Thursday night against the Seattle Seahawks: There's a three-way tie at the top among 4-2 teams Arizona...

Ray Lewis Injury: Ravens LB Out for Season

Following the news that cornerback Lardarius Webb would be out for the remainder of the season, Baltimore Ravens coach John Harbaugh told reporters, including Ryan Mink of NFL.com, the team would also be without linebacker Ray Lewis for the year. “Ray has a triceps tear,” Harbaugh said. “A complete tear. So he’ll be out for the season.” Lewis suffered...

The Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers are about to wage war this Thursday night on the NFL Network. It's a big game, a battle for first place early on in the season, but this is the very start of a real rivalry.
