San Francisco 49ers nose tackle Ian Williams was placed on injured reserve Tuesday with a broken left ankle.
Williams, who was scheduled to undergo surgery on the ankle, was injured on by a block by J.R. Sweezy early in the 49ers' 29-3 loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday.
Williams, a three-year veteran who made his first career start against the Seahawks, has played in six games and has 11 tackles. He originally joined the team as an undrafted free agent out of Notre Dame in 2011.
The 49ers also signed fullback Owen Marecic to a one-year contact on Tuesday.
Marecic played for 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh at Stanford.

After getting pushed around by the Seattle Seahawks offensive line last night the San Francisco 49ers brought in the big defensive tackle Kyle Love. Love was the player that the Patriots released because of diabetes. Love landed on Jacksonville before getting cut from there too. Love is a big boy and could have helped the […]
I’ve had a bout with the writer’s block lately. But thanks to Malk, I’ve found inspiration and now, in the words of the GREAT Bane, and Ivan Drago: I Must Break You*.
The article about San Francisco sports fans is just baseless and flat out wrong, here are the facts: The Giants are one of a handful of teams to consistently reach 3 million tickets sold every year, something...
Sunday night, Richard Sherman and the Seattle Seahawks put the clamps on the San Francisco offense. After seeing Anquan Boldin make 13 grabs for 208 yards and a score against Green Bay, Sherman requested the job of eliminating him. ”I asked coach for the challenge,” he said after the 29-3 conquest. ”I wanted to follow him.”
With nine and a half minutes left in the fourth...
The San Francisco 49ers need to have a short memory of the debacle that occurred up in Seattle Sunday night if they want to knock off the Indianapolis Colts this Sunday at Candlestick Park. These two teams are meeting for the first time since the 2009 season where the Colts won 18-14. That Colts team featured arguably one of the best quarterbacks of all time, Peyton Manning though...
The big matchup between the San Francisco 49ers and the Seattle Seahawks was a big disappointment – for the 49ers and QB Colin Kaepernick that is…
The Seahawks defense, with the aid of the record-setting crowd noise, shut down the 49ers offense in a 29-3 laugher.
And as per the little eyebrow wager between Colin and Seahawks QB Russell Wilson, it was time to pay the piper:
The San Francisco 49ers looked like like a well oiled machine in week 1, but the Seattle Seahawks deflated the NFC champs in a blowout. The loss dropped the 49ers to No. 4 in the Profootballtalk.com power rankings.
The 49ers announced the signing of fullback Owen Marecic, a favorite of Jim Harbaugh during his days at Stanford. He replaces Ian Williams, who suffered a broken ankle Sunday and has gone on injured reserve.
The home-field advantage is one of the better-known aspects in all of sports. Numbers continuously show that playing in your home stadium produces positive results. Many factors can be attributed to this notion, whether it is the comfort of sleeping in your own bed the night before a big game, or merely the familiarity with the nooks and crannies of your home-field. Another undeniable...
The only thing that hurts more than losing Week 2? Losing your eyebrow, just ask Colin Kaepernick — This might be the first time I’ve seen Kaep with his shirt on. See the video below:

The 49ers Might Have An Army, but The Seahawks Have a Hulk
One Seattle Seahawks fan seems to have identified an undercover cop in San Francisco 49ers gear - and given us the photo of the year in the process.
The Seattle Seahawks dominated the San Francisco 49ers Sunday night in a 29-3 victory. In a game that was delayed by lightning in Seattle, the Seahawks beat the 49ers on offense and defense. After advancing to the Super Bowl last season, San Francisco, and especially quarterback Colin Kaepernick, looked downright awful. The game displayed an interesting story line as the two teams...
