The 49ers played without starting right guard Adam Snyder for most of Thursday’s game after Snyder pulled his left hamstring late in the first quarter. Snyder was replaced by Chilo Rachal, whose mistakes immediately cost the 49ers. Rachal and running back Frank Gore combined on a chop-block penalty that negated a 75-yard touchdown by Ted Ginn and he missed a block on the same series that resulted in Cory Redding sacking Alex Smith, one of nine sacks on the night for the Ravens. Rachal began the season as San Francisco’s starter at right guard but was replaced by Snyder by Week 4. Snyder returned for a series in the second quarter but did not play in the second half and was limping badly after the game.

First quarter impressions

The 49ers are overly concerned about the deep pass and they are allowing Anquan Boldin, mainly, to get loose on their defensive left. It looks like the 49ers are playing zone on that side and linebackers Bowman and Willis look a little lost in coverage. The 49ers did shut down the run in the first...
