After only carrying the ball ten times in a 21-19 loss to the Arizona Cardinals, San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh told the media that RB Frank Gore is “not 100%“. Harbaugh would not explain exactly what is ailing Frank Gore however. “He’s got some things. He’s not 100% And we have other backs who got carries in the second half”, said Harbaugh. Gore is the 49ers leading rusher this season, eclipsing the 1,000 yard mark with 1,054 yards and six touchdowns. The San Francisco 49ers face their toughest test of the season this Monday night when they host the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers have the top ranked pass defense and the 6th ranked rush defense, yielding just 97 yards per game. The last time the 49ers faced a defense on par with the Steelers was on Thanksgiving Day when they lost 16-6 at Baltimore to the Ravens. Harbaugh did not give any answers as to what Gore’s status Monday night would be.     Eric Schmidt is the owner/editor of...

49ers Coping With a Banged-Up Frank Gore

No team wants to go into the playoffs without its best player, so the 49ers face a decision over the final three games of the regular season: Give running back Frank Gore some rest and let him heal, or use him to give the team its best chance to secure the No. 2 seed in the NFC playoffs? On Monday, 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh revealed Gore isn’t completely healthy. &ldquo...

49ers Can Ruin the Packers Perfect Season

If there was one team that stands a chance at ruining the Green Bay Packers quest of the perfect season it is the San Francisco 49ers. Odds are the Packers will go undefeated. Green Bay has the benefit of two of their remaining three games in storied Lambeau Field. They will be facing, at the very least, two teams fighting for their playoff lives as they focus on the NFC North. ...

Questions, looking for answers

Why did the Cardinals have such a handle on the 49ers ' offense in the second half of their 21-19 win over San Francisco on Sunday? And what about those red-zone issues? Is it the players? The play-calling? And why did running back Frank Gore have only 10 carries? And why hasn't backup...

Harbaugh post-game: “We attacked, we went after it, we just didn’t convert”

GLENDALE, Ariz.–Jim Harbaugh was not very expansive in the minutes after the 49ers’ listless 21-19 loss, which is of zero surprise to anybody. He seemed intent on not pinning any blame on any specific area or player, which, again, is normal Harbaugh. Mostly, he seemed ticked off by the... Continue reading...

The San Francisco 49ers will not contend for the NFC Title this season

There is no doubt that the San Francisco 49ers have made incredible strides this season, with new Coach Jim Harbaugh taking the reigns behind a lowly team and their bust QB Alex Smith and making them into perennial winners. Not only has Smith resurfaced as a solid option, but the defense has been nothing short of phenomenal. In the future, the 49ers could certainly contend, but as...

The 49ers have the worst red zone offense in football

The 49ers have won 10 games this year despite a glaring problem that Jim Harbaugh hasn’t been able to solve. They are a miserable red zone offense. After Sunday’s loss in Arizona, the 49ers officially have the worst red zone offense in the league. No team has scored touchdowns a lower percentage of times inside…

Alex Smith has been really solid for the San Francisco 49ers this year

Coach Jim Harbaugh’s faith in 27-year old QB Alex Smith has paid off in spades.  Smith is playing, by far, the best football of his NFL career so far this year.  He has played in 13 games for the 49ers this year and he has completed 221 of 358 passes (61.7%) for 2,565 yards with 15 TD passes and 5 INTs (91.5 QB Rating).  He has also carried the ball 39 times for 141 yards...
