(Eds: APNewsNow. Will be updated. With AP Photos.) By JANIE McCAULEY AP Sports Writer Frank Gore looks at his three 100-yard rushing performances, four touchdowns and overall output in the season's first half and is quick to praise an unheralded offensive line that's helping him do it.
Helping San Francisco's entire offense shine, too. These big boys block all over the field, every which way - even if it means taking on a speedy, more athletic defensive back.
Gore appreciates it, all right.
The three-time Pro Bowl running back insists he has never had such huge holes ahead of him to run, and that is the ultimate compliment to the 49ers' talented, much-improved O-line. Gore is now gearing up for a strong stretch the rest of the way with the NFC West-leading Niners (6-2), as long as these guys keep doing the dirty work.

Randy Moss returned to his hometown of Rand, West Virginia this week and paid a visit to one of its most famous landmarks. As Moss’ close friend Donnie Jones once said, all they had in Rand was a 7-Eleven store. The people in the community would say that the town’s athletes were doomed because of their upbringing and would be going nowhere for college except Rand University....

As the San Francisco 49ers come off their bye week, John Harbaugh should be fairly happy with how the team has played so far. At 6-2 San Francisco has shown their ability to be the best team in the league in a win in Green Bay, but once again struggled in a loss to the Giants. While Alex Smith will never be in a Pro Bowl he has done his job, not forcing passes and being...
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Alex Smith threw a 14-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter of Sunday's 24-24 tie against the Rams while playing with blurred vision before coming out with a concussion.
Coach Jim Harbaugh said Monday that Smith connected with Michael Crabtree six plays after he began experiencing blurred vision on a 1-yard keeper early in the second quarter...
(Eds: APNewsNow. Will be updated. With AP Photos.) When Alex Smith is good he can be very good. When Smith is very good, the San Francisco 49ers are practically unbeatable.
While the staples of San Francisco's success this season remain a rock-solid defense and the NFL's top-ranked rushing game, Smith's play at quarterback has been a key variable that's put the 49ers...
JEFF BARTL STATS Writer The San Francisco 49ers' stellar defense is a major reason they enter the second half of the season in control of the NFC West, at times overshadowing an offense possessing an efficient quarterback and the NFL's best running game.
Alex Smith, Frank Gore and the rest of the 49ers' offense look to take advantage of a St. Louis Rams team that hasn...
The Niners and Rams return from their bye weeks only to find they'll be facing each other in Week 10. Can St. Louis pull the upset at the 'Stick?
The San Francisco 49ers are preparing to play a 3-5 St. Louis Rams team with a battered offensive line and an aging running back, Steven Jackson. Still, to hear 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh tell it, he's not overconfident heading into the Sunday game to Candlestick Park. "They present all kind of problems along the (defensive) front, the linebackers. (They are) very good in...
The Colts employed a RBBC approach on Thursday night and left expectant Vick Ballard owners wanting. Rashad Jennings was near-invisible against the normally generous Indianapolis run defense.
In the end, the lone player to make his mark on the ground in the Week 10 opener was Andrew Luck. Can anybody top his two rushing touchdowns on Sunday?
Let's get into this week's running...
