The San Francisco 49ers selected cornerback Marcus Cooper out of Rutgers with the last of their three seventh-round picks in the NFL draft Saturday, completing the team's haul of seven players taken on the draft's final day.
Cooper, the No. 252 overall selection, could compete for a reserve role in a San Francisco secondary that is looking to upgrade at the cornerback position. Cooper finished with 42 tackles and one interception in 13 games for Rutgers last season.
He is one of two defensive backs among San Francisco's 11 total picks, joining LSU safety Eric Reid, selected by the 49ers with the No. 18 overall pick in the first round.

The first round of the 2013 NFL Draft was marked by a run on offensive lineman. Subsequently, a few really good prospects on the defensive line dropped. The most notable decline was Star Lotulelei tumbling down to the Carolina Panthers at pick #14. Sharriff Floyd fell into the Minnesota Vikings’ lap at pick #23. It was widely known that the San Francisco 49ers were going to trade...
1.18 San Francisco 49ers Eric Reid, S, LSU (6-1¼, 213)
With the eighteenth selection in this year’s NFL Draft, the San Francisco 49ers select safety Eric Reid from LSU. I think the phrase the rich get richer applies here. The 49ers had a hole in the defense after Dashon Goldson left for Tampa Bay and Eric Reid is the guy to fill it at free safety. A hard worker on and...
Coming into Thursday's first round of the draft, the consensus was the 49ers would be finding a safety in the early rounds. It was no surprise Trent Baalke used his deep pocket of draft picks to trade up and get his target player. But with such a deep safety class, was it the right move?
The 49ers traded down in a deal with Dallas that sent pick 31 of the first round to the Cowboys and the No. 74 overall pick in return for the 18th pick in the first round in which the Niners plucked LSU Safety Eric Reid.
Eric Reid possesses the range needed for deep threats, something the 49ers fell susceptible to late last season. He figures to penciled in as the starter along...
The 49ers have moved down six spots from 34th overall in the second round after swapping picks with the Titans.
In addition to the 40th pick, the Niners also receive the 216th overall pick (seventh round) and a 2014 third round pick. All just to move down six positions. Trent Baalke picking pockets once again.
So, now the Niners have essentially received second-round, seventh-round...
Here’s a list of the 49ers draft picks in the 2013 NFL Draft:
Eric Reid, free safety, LSU – round 1, 18th overall – Niners trade up to get their likely Dashon Goldson replacement.
Tank Carradine, defensive end, Florida State – round 2, 40th overall – Could see time as a pass rushing outside linebacker a la Aldon Smith, but seen as a long term as a potential successor...
