Did you know that Panther Racing’s primary IZOD IndyCar Series entry has been No. 4 since its inception as a tribute to founding partner Jim Harbaugh, who wore the jersey number for the majority of his college and NFL playing career?
For the Aug. 24-26 GoPro Indy Grand Prix of Sonoma, the National Guard car will carry a San Francisco 49ers livery as a tribute to the team’s head coach. It just so happens that driver JR Hildebrand of nearby Sausalito, Calif., is a lifelong 49ers fan. Hildebrand, Panther Racing owner John Barnes, the team’s pit crew and select soldiers from the National Guard will take the car to the 49ers training facility in Santa Clara on Aug. 23.
Spectators attending the Aug. 17 test at the raceway at Sonoma got an early look at the car.
“Jim likes to downplay his involvement, but he was an instrumental part of our team getting off the ground in 1997 and he helped lay the foundation that led Panther to two IndyCar championships,” Barnes said. “He brought the same h...

Harbaugh rips replacement refs
After telling reporters that he wasn't going to comment on the officiating per NFL orders, Jim Harbaugh felt the need to unload on them following some questionable calls.
Jim Harbaugh Received Headache From Bad Officiating
Jim Harbaugh, coach of the San Francisco 49ers, is the next NFL affiliate who has publicly bash the replacement refs.
The NFL has issued “talking points” to coaches and players when speaking on the ongoing dispute between the NFL and the NFL referees, but when bad officiating overwhelms you, those “talking points” go out the window.
When first asked about the replacements...
Jim Harbaugh says replacement officials gave him a ‘headache’ against Texans
As expected, the NFL’s replacement officials have been a popular topic of discussion throughout the preseason. Just as replacement players who are filling in for holdouts do, the guys in the stripes have experienced some rough moments over the past couple of weeks. A few of those moments came during the Niners-Texans game on Saturday night.
There were several calls during the game...
Jim Harbaugh lambastes officials for ‘crazy, wild calls’
Despite instructions from the NFL which warn against critiquing the replacement officials, 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh couldn’t help himself when discussing the team’s second preseason game.
Following the Niners’ 20-9 loss to the Texans Saturday night, Harbaugh took issue with head referee Wayne Elliot and his crew, saying there were some “crazy, wild calls” and “a lot of...
Replacement Refs Give 49ers Coach Jim Harbaugh A Headache
The NFL has instructed teams and coaches to avoid making any public criticisms of the replacement officials, going so far as to provide talking points to use when asked about the ongoing dispute. San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh is not a "talking points" kind of guy. Following Saturday night's 20-9 loss to the Houston Texans, Harbaugh initially said that...
Jim Harbaugh Likes Direction of 49ers’ Offense
Coach Jim Harbaugh was a pretty happy camper after the San Francisco 49ers’ solid offensive outing in last week’s Week 1 preseason win over the Minnesota Vikings. With the focus of the media appearing to be more offensive-driven, Harbaugh addressed the quarterback and pass-catchers questions after practice on Tuesday.

Jim Harbaugh Is Just Like All Of Us – He Hates Replacement Refs, Too!
San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh is upset about something (no surprise). Last night’s preseason game against the Houston Texans set him off, and he said the following about the replacement refs, who have, quite frankly, made all of us mad with their inability to officiate games as good as the normal refs:
“I don’t know. It’s interesting. I don’t have the pulse...
49ers RB Brandon Jacobs Could Play In Week 1
San Francisco coach Jim Harbaugh said Monday "it's possible" that running back Brandon Jacobs (knee) could be available for the regular-season opener, the Sacramento Bee reports. Jacobs apparently dodged a serious knee injury after leaving Friday's preseason game after taking a hit from Houston cornerback Kareem Jackson in the first quarter. He had to be taken to...
Jim Harbaugh: Jacobs' knee injury not of the "you don't come back from variety"
Last night, San Francisco 49ers running back Brandon Jacobs' knee injury looked bad, real bad, season-ending bad. Torn ACL, MCL, you name it, it's gotta something bad like that, right?
But wait, there's hope on the horizon. X-rays have come back negative, showing his ACL and patellar tendon are still intact. He's scheduled for an MRI today.
Sure, he'll miss...
San Francisco 49ers: New WR Corps Key To Super Bowl Run
In Jim Harbaugh's first year as the San Francisco 49ers' head coach, his team earned the NFC West title, falling one game short of competing in the Super Bowl.
Quarterback Alex Smith had a breakthrough season reaching career highs in passing yards, pass completion percentage, and quarterback rating.
Smith has the intellect, skill set, and leadership abilities to march...
2012 San Francisco 49ers: Best and Worst-Case Scenario
After a miraclous 2011 campaign ended in heartbreak, Jim Harbaugh and the San Francisco 49ers have their eye on the ultimate prize in 2012.
In their way is a tougher schedule that includes the top three offenses in the league - Green Bay, New Orleans, and New England - as well as a date with last year's Super Bowl Champions, the New York Giants.
The best-case scenario, then...
Brandon Jacobs avoids serious knee injury
Jim Harbaugh and the San Francisco 49ers can breath a sigh of relief on Sunday as the results on Brandon Jacobs‘ injured knee came back without any serious damage.
The former New York Giant left Saturday’s game in the first quarter after sustaining a hit to his right knee from Kareem Jackson of the Houston Texans. The injury appeared to be serious and the 49ers training staff...
Jim Harbaugh believes Brandon Jacobs will be back this season
AP
On Saturday night, 49ers running back Brandon Jacobs suffered a knee injury. The good news is that x-rays came back negative, but he’s scheduled to undergo an MRI on Sunday that could still reveal some ligament damage.

The POGs: San Francisco Edition
RELIANT STADIUM – The second pre-season game featured two heavy weight playoff hopefuls in the Houston Texans and the San Francisco 49ers, last year’s NFC Championship finalist. With the firey Jim Harbaugh at the 49ers helm, most fans were anticipating a physical, regular-season-style game – and they got it, but it was the 49ers who left the game banged up in a 20-9 loss...
