Just imagine if the 49ers had lost Sunday in St. Louis. They would have returned to work Monday and faced a quick and daunting turnaround, with only five days to prepare for a playoff encounter with the ever-dangerous Lions.
Now that chore falls to Drew Brees and his New Orleans teammates.

The NFL single-season records set by the Saints (13-3), who head into the playoffs on an eight-game winning streak, included offensive yards with 7,474, team yards passing with 5,347 and first downs with 416.

The New Orleans Saints have set an NFL record for the most yards of offense in a season. The 2000 St. Louis Rams held the previous mark of 7,075. New Orleans eclipsed that number in the second quarter of Sunday's season finale against the Carolina Panthers on a pass from Drew Brees to Robert Meachem, reaching 7,081.
