According to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen, the San Francisco 49ers plan on re-signing quarterback Alex Smith if the price is right.  They’re making a smart move, since they don’t know how well he’ll play next season or if he can continue to progress and get better year in and year out. I’m sure if another team is willing to overpay Smith, the 49ers wouldn’t have a problem letting him walk and moving on.
