First off thank you Minnesota Vikings. They got the 49ers the No.2 seed and a playoff bye. The Vikings needed to win to make playoffs but more importantly that win gave the 49ers a much needed bye. Now onto the 49ers game. The 49ers needed the win over the Cardinals to win the West and it started off slow, but they got clicking on all sides of the ball and beat the Cardinals 27-13. Highlights: Michael Crabtree finished the day with 8 receptions for 172 yards and 2 touchdowns. Michael Crabtree passed the 1000 yard receiving mark, the first since Terrell Owens. Michael Crabtree going 150+ and 2 touchdowns was the most since Terrell Owens did it back in 2002. Alex Smith finished out the game and was 1 for 1 on the day and with that we may have seen our last play from Alex in 49ers colors. Aldon Smith did not get a sack, he finished the season with 19.5. One shy of the league leading total by JJ Watt (20.5) and 3.5 shy of Strahan’s record. Frank Gore has a rushing touchdown which gave ...

49ers DE Justin Smith Expects To Be Ready For The Playoffs

49ers DE Justin Smith mentioned that he expects to be ready to play in the team’s upcoming playoff game, even if they are playing next weekend. “Yeah, I’d be ready to play,” Smith said, via Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee. “Just go with it. That’s all you can do.” Smith tore his triceps during Week 15′s game against the Patriots, but there’s been a reasonable...

49ers pass over Cardinals for first round bye

With 8:08 to go in the 2nd quarter, the scoreboard read 6-0. The offense rummaged three 1st downs, yet was stonewalled on four attempts for 3rd down conversions, resulting in three punts. A 40% passing completion, 10 rushes for 52 yards, and a missed field goal jumped off of the stat sheet. Although these numbers seemed tailor-made for the Cardinals’ last place offense, they belonged...

Justin Smith’s status for the playoffs is uncertain

According to the Sacramento Bee, the San Francisco 49ers are hoping that with enough rest and rehab, defensive end Justin Smith (partially torn triceps) will be able to rejoin them during the playoffs. He may need surgery in the offseason to remove the bone spur. But the 49ers believe he can rehabilitate his arm to the point where he is effective in the playoffs. A first-round bye...

49ers look short of offensive options

There's a downside to receiver Michael Crabtree's career-best performance in the San Francisco 49ers' 27-13 victory over the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. The 172 receiving yards and two touchdowns tossed his way by quarterback Colin Kaepernick may reveal just how one-dimensional the 49ers offense has become, hardly the image a Super Bowl contender wants to carry into...

49ers look to clinch NFC West against Cardinals

Just two months ago, the San Francisco 49ers grabbed control of the NFC West from the Arizona Cardinals behind Alex Smith's near perfect performance on a Monday night in the desert. Oh, how much has changed since. The slow and steady Smith has been replaced by Colin Kaepernick, a high-risk, high-reward quarterback who coach Jim Harbaugh is counting on to lead the suddenly fragile...
