49ers running backs coach Tom Rathman told the Sacramento Bee that while he likes the depth the team has at the position, "I don't know if everyone's going to be happy with the time that they get." The Niners added rookie LaMichael James to a group that includes long-time starter Frank Gore, veteran Brandon Jacobs and second-year rusher Kendall Hunter, among others. When asked if James needed to bulk up to play more effectively at the next level, Rathman said no. "He's already an impact player. That's what he is," he said. "So he's going to be a guy that makes a lot of plays for your offense, can do a lot of different things for your football team. I don't know if you ask a guy to put on weight, try to be somebody that he's not or he hasn't been in his past experience playing football."

Vernon Davis is pretty high on his team. A year after they lost in the NFC Championship Game, he says his squad should be SB favorites.

Jim Harbaugh looking for some players to play both ways

Getty images San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh is a hard-nosed coach and there’s no doubt that he expects his players to be the same way.  So far in the month of June, there are four players that he has slated as guys that can play both offense and defense this season. Will Tukuafu who weighs 293 pounds and was listed as a defensive tackle when he entered the NFL, has...

49ers giving quartet a two-way look

San Francisco's Will Tukuafu has spent most of his football life chasing down running backs. The 49ers hope he can now help Frank Gore and the rest of their backfield handle other defensive tackles with the same agenda. The 293-pound Tukuafu is getting some additional work at fullback during the 49ers' organized team activities this offseason. He even managed to catch a...

49ers’ Head Coach Jim Harbaugh praises Vernon Davis

Head Coach Jim Harbaugh singled out Vernon Davis today as someone having “an outstanding offseason.” This is just a continuation of what Davis did down the stretch last year. In his last 5 games, including playoffs, he had 28 catches for 536 yards and 5 touchdowns. Davis struggled with the playbook earlier in the season, which he himself admits. However, before last year when...

Vernon Davis believes the 49ers should be Super Bowl favorites

Getty Images San Francisco 49ers tight end Vernon Davis told the San Jose Mercury News that he believe that his team should be this year’s Super Bowl favorite heading into this coming season. “I strongly believe we should be the Super Bowl favorites,” Davis said. “But I can’t talk about it because it’s all about work. It starts here at practice. I don’t want to talk...

At the start of the letter, Joe's mom explains how her son became a fan of the team and how he...

Young Giants fan offers Brandon Jacobs $3.36 to return to NY (PIC)

As we all know by now, after winning his second Super Bowl Championship as a member of the NY Giants this year, RB Brandon Jacobs decided to head for greener pastures and sign with the 49ers. And by “greener”, we mean a place where he could get “more money”. Well, one young Giants fan took that to heart, and decided to try and do something about it. When his parents informed...

49ers TE Vernon Davis Opens Up About Trouble Back Home

It's business as usual for Vernon Davis when he's on the field with San Francisco 49ers teammates, but off-the-field family issues have taken their toll on the star tight end. Michael Davis, Vernon's 19-year-old brother, was charged with first-degree murder in Washington, D.C., in the May beating death of a 64-year-old tourist from Colorado named Gary Dederichs. Michael...

Young Giants fan sends money to Jacobs to stay

New 49ers running back Brandon Jacobs received a letter this week from a 6-year-old boy named Joseph that included $3.36 in cash from his piggy bank - the child's contribution to try to keep Jacobs with the reigning Super Bowl champion New York Giants. The boy's mother, Julie Armento, wrote that she explained to her son that the Giants didn't have enough money to bring...

Brandon Jacobs planning to visit the boy who sent him money

Getty Images A six-year old New York Giants fan named Joe sent San Francisco 49ers running back Brandon Jacobs a letter with $3.36 in it so he’d be able to re-sign with the Giants. Of course it unfortunately didn’t matter how much money the boy sent Jacobs, he couldn’t work anything out with the Giants and ended up signing with the 49ers. Read this note and tell me what u think...

6-Year-Old Boy Mailed $3.36 to Brandon Jacobs To Get Him To Resign With The Giants

Jason Whitney This is why I love sports. The purity of the child fan that has no clue yet about the diva, me-first, narcissistic athletes that rule much of today’s game. What a feel good story about a 6-year-old New York Giants fan who was devastated after one of his favorite players Brandon Jacobs signed a deal with the San Francisco 49ers during the offseason. According to Complex...

6-year old fan sent Brandon Jacobs $3.36 in hopes he would re-sign with the Giants

Prior to the off-season, Brandon Jacobs had spent the first seven years of his NFL career with the New York Giants with mixed results from the fan base before bolting NY to join the San Francisco 49ers. Apparently a young 6-year old Giants fan wasn’t too fond of Jacobs potentially leaving and mailed the running [...]

49ers RB Frank Gore Comes To Defense Of Saints And LB Jonathan Vilma

Perhaps it’s a little surprising to hear a San Francisco 49er that was targeted by Gregg Williams come to the defense of the New Orleans Saints and Jonathan Vilma, but Frank Gore, the 49ers running back that Williams implored his defenders to attack, did just that. In comments to Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee, Gore defended the type of player Vilma is and said the comments...
