San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Josh Morgan will undergo a surgical procedure for a broken bone in his lower right leg.
Morgan was injured in the waning minutes of San Francisco's 48-3 rout of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday.
Niners coach Jim Harbaugh said the injury was more serious than anticipated and expected Morgan to be sidelined for an "extended" period.
Morgan had five receptions for 75 yards Sunday, giving him 15 catches in five games this season.
The 49ers are already thin at wide receiver with Braylon Edwards still sidelined following knee surgery.
