Sadly, this isn't much of a surprise, but it sounds as if the Eagles will once again be without former Pro Bowler Shawn Andrews this season. The Eagles beat tweeters are all reporting that Andrews will be placed on the IR. Since he went down in week 2 of last year, we've seen very little reason to think he was 100% healthy at any time, yet it was anticipated by the team that the Big Kid would play this season, if not in week 1.

After missing the first game, Andrews has been placed on the IR, ending his season. His roster spot will be used to add Jeff Garcia. Many Birds fans were hoping that Winston Justice's solid performance against the Panthers would help to motivate Andrews to get back on the field, but now it seems we should probably just give up hope and maybe be pleasantly surprised if his career resumes at all. I'm certainly not betting on it. Shame to see such a talented Eagle's career just fall apart. Hopefully Andrews, who as we all know has had a terrible doubt with depression, handles the news OK.

  • Perhaps it's time for the Eagles to cut their losses here. To go from a Beast to nothing in about a day is pretty sad.
  • I hope this was done because Andrews is a ******* and clearly not going to play for us. I am so sick of this guy. Depressed so we add his brother and college roommate to the team and he still does nothing for us. If this was done just to keep either Baskett or Brown I am pissed though.
  • cut loss. the guy is a bust
  • cut loss. the guy is a bust
  • too much talent to cut. If he comes back full strength next year, he's a pro-bowl player.
  • What a bust. When he is healthy (mentally) he is one of the best in the game. Sadly, he has too many mental issues to keep playing this game. Release him. Maybe he will find jesus or something and will revive his career after a few years of not playing.
  • His back won't stop flaring up. Shawn definitely has some issues, but they aren't the reason he isn't on the field.
  • It's all mental. There is nothing physically wrong with him. Back injuries are a large part psychological.
  • In an interview he said he cannot bend over and pick up his 35 lb son. So... unless he's flat out lying...
  • Do you not remember that incident last training camp where he didn't show up because of "personal problems"?

    Yeah, he was suicidal.

The Eagles bring in his college teammate (Jason Peters), his brother (Stacy Andrews) just to make him more "mentally stable."

    Apparently that didn't work.

It's obviously evident that he doesn't want to play football anymore. That's why the Eagles placed him on the IR for the season. Andrews' press conference was all about thanking Reid for his time here. As in HE'S DONE!
  • I mean, if you're an Arkansas fan or somehow related to him, I can see why you would want to support him.

But it's pretty clear that he just doesn't want to play.
  • His passion is music. He is starting to remind me of Ricky Williams.
  • At first glance, some of the stuff he writes is outright garbage, but if you compare it 2 some of the stuff people listen to today it isn't that bad.
  • I want him running over Osi and Tuck. Not writing about running over Osi and Tuck.

Eagles Have No Plans of Signing Runyan

Big Jon will find himself on a team very shortly, but not in Philly.Initially I had figured that the Eagles would sign Runyan as a backup because of Shawn Andrews' recent placement on I.R., but apparently the Eagles are comfortable with their backups. Unlike some others, I didn't think Runyan would be the starter because it was easy to be impressed with Winston Justice at...

You knew the Eagles weren't going to keep seven wide receivers all season. And you knew something had to give with the health of Shawn Andrews.
