The Patriots have traded cornerback Ellis Hobbs to the Eagles for two fifth round picks, according to Boston.com Hobbs was signed through this season, so it makes sense in terms of timing. It's pretty much the last time they can get value for him without resigning him next season and they did just bring in Leigh Bodden and Shawn Springs (and drafted Darius Butler), so I can see the logic. But a year after the Patriots had to scramble to fill cornerback depth because they left themselves light at CB by letting Randal Gay walk and then with the Asante Samuel trade, it doesn't make much sense to trade your best cornerback again. Now, I think Leigh Bodden is better than Hobbs, but not by much and I think the team would've been in a better position if it went to camp and at least was able to see what they had in those players before shipping out the only proven, consistent performer they have at the position.

Ellis Hobbs is a Quote Machine

Over the last couple days, a number of Ellis Hobbs‘ quotes have surfaced across the blogosphere regarding his trade from the Pats to the Birds. I think Hobbs is a good, not great, cornerback who is very much opposite of Sheldon in his style of play. Hobbs is a gambler, while Brown is more of [...]

Eagles acquire CB Ellis Hobbs from Patriots

In a move that may be insurance in case disgruntled cornerback Sheldon Brown holds out, the Eagles acquired cornerback Ellis Hobbs from the Patriots for two 5th round picks, choices 137 and 141 overall. Hobbs has been a starter for the Patriots the last two seasons, picking up 4 interceptions in that time. He is entering the last year of his deal so he will likely...

Looking Forward

It's been a terrific offseason for me. I have spent most of my time in Arizona with my wife and three kids. Having a chance to be a dad - going to my daughter's soccer games and dance recitals, and seeing the babies grow and develop; there is nothing better than that. I am truly blessed and fortunate that the American Diabetes Association will honor me and two other men in...

7 Days of Draftsmas: Freeman Rumors Picking Up Steam

Perhaps I was too quick to dismiss The Goose’s mock draft where he gave the Vikings Josh Freeman at #22?  Possibly, if one gives credence to what Paul Allen, the voice of the Vikings, just posted on Rube Chat: feeling it comes down to trading back, harvin, freeman, butler. very much in the dark as of now. during draft show with bercich i’ll have a much better feel as...

Finding Bargains

At least we know New England will not have a problem signing their draft picks before training camp.In the past I'd be parked in front of the tv watching every pick and waiting in anticipation for the Patriots' selections. So I could imagine the scenario as commish Roger Goodell steps to the podium and announces:"With the 23rd overall pick, the New England Patriots select...

Philadelphia Eagles 2009 Draft Round-up

The Eagles came in with a plan for the 2009 NFL Draft: upgrade the skill position players and give Donovan McNabb some more weapons. Since they couldn't get Anquan Boldin in a trade, the Eagles did the next best thing and got one of the top wideouts in the draft. Since they couldn't get Tony Gonzalez in a trade, they went and got a steal in the 5th round when they drafted...
