Found October 20, 2008 on Waiting For Next Year: Yardbarker Blogger Network
If I told you in August that the secondary would become the strength of the team, what would you expect Cleveland's record to be? 5-1? 4-2? Even though this team is technically only a game out of the AFC Wild Card slot, they are much closer to being the Detroit Lions or Cincinnati Bengals than they are to being a playoff contender. With all of the mess going on with Kellen Winslow's comments, to me the most telling moment was the play in which Derek Anderson and Lawrence Vickers got into an argument and nearly a shoving match on the field. Vickers is a quiet, no-nonsense player that does his job on every play. Anderson clearly doesn't have his respect, and that says a lot to me. You have to listen to Tony Grossi's chat wrap today. Two things jumped out at me. At about the 9 minute mark Tony begins to discuss Derek Anderson's play. He talks about Derek Anderson running around on the last drive trying to figure out what the play they wanted called, only to spike the ball af...

Vikings Tried To Trade For Browns QB Brady Quinn

Word is the Vikings offered the Browns their 2009 and 2010 first-round draft picks for quarterback Brady Quinn, but Cleveland, after consideration, said no thanks. Economically, the deal makes sense for the Vikings in that Quinn, who is under contract for three more years after this season, already has been paid his signing bonus. With the trading deadline recently passed, the deal...

Browns Suspend Kellen Winslow

Just two days after tight end Kellen Winslow voiced his displeasure with the way the team handled his recent bout with staph infection, the Browns have handed him a one game suspension. He will not take part in team activities until Monday, October 27th.

According to NFL.com's Adam Schefter, If the Jets decide to trade for a quarterback, the most logical one is ClevelandÂ’s Derek Anderson. For...

Cleveland Sports Curse Podcast - 2008-01-12

This week we were live on 1540 KNR2. As we were talking about the Browns' vacated Defensive coordinator job, they promoted Mel Tucker from within the organization. We talked about Derek Anderson and his being named the starter for next season. We talked about the Buckeyes and their problems in the national championship game. Derek Anderson headed for purple pastures?

"Things are apparently not going well as the Browns attempt to sign Derek Anderson to a long-term deal. According to reports, Anderson recently turned down a 3-year offer worth $16 million. The QB is looking for a five-year deal, which is longer than the Browns really want to go." I'd love to see Derek Anderson stay in Cleveland, but a five-year deal is too long...

Bullet Points: Browns Beat Giants!

Hey, does anybody else feel that? Do you know what it is? It is a complete and utter lack of a Browns hangover. You know that salty, disgusted feeling the morning after a Browns loss or a win like they had against the Bengals? Yeah, this is the direct opposite of that. The Browns actually put together a complete game against the New York Giants on national television. They...

Derek Anderson saved the season for the Cleveland Browns

Things were not looking good for the Browns after the season opener against the Steelers (34-7) so the Browns made a drastic move as they traded Charlie Frye and inserted Derek Anderson.  All Anderson did was compile a 10-5 record as a starter and he was named as a alternate in the Pro Bowl.  Ander...

Browns TE Winslow Back with the Team; May or May Not Play

Browns TE Kellen Winslow was back with the team on Friday, but wouldn't tell the media in Berea exactly what it was that kept him in the Cleveland Clinic for three days last week. "I'm not going to tell you exactly," Winslow said. "It was really the Cleveland Browns' decision to keep it ...

Brady's on the back burner

Today QB Derek Anderson re-upped with the Browns after agreeing to terms on a multiple-year contract, which means Browns QB Brady Quinn will have to wait at least another year to get a shot as an NFL starter. Unless a trade is in the works. Cleveland doesn't have a selection in either the first or second rounds of this April's NFL Draft. They traded the second-rounder...

QB Crowding in Cleveland

Phil Savage says Derek Anderson isn't going anywhere...neither is Brady Quinn. We can still expect trade speculation.

My Day Too Late NFL Predictions

I forgot to post this before the games ran Sunday, but since I am the consummate professional, I am still going to reveal them here. Some of them were slightly off: * If the Bengals can keep it close against Pittsburgh, they just might find a way to sneak ahead in the 4th quarter. * Peyton Manning sometimes confused the colors green and white, as they are incredibly similar...

Top 10 Candidates to Replace Brady Quinn at QB for Browns

Most people assume that Derek Anderson will be taking over on Sunday when the Browns play the Colts in Cleveland. And that is probably correct. But between the Browns' 4-7 record, the utter incompetence of Braylon Edwards, the overall ineptitude of our offense, the up and down defense, and ...
