The wide receiver position was the most interesting position of the night. A few players stepped up to the occasion, and a few disappointed us. Rookie WR Charly Martin probably has secured his position on the 53-man roster. Martin led the team in receiving yards with five catches for 67 yards and had two special team tackles. In their preseason a year ago, the Chargers essentially packed Antonio Gates, who was coming off toe surgery, in bubble wrap and never let him step into harm's way. In last night's 20-14 loss to the Seattle Seahawks in the preseason opener, Gates got an occasional game's worth of passes directed at him in a matter of minutes.
