I was lucky enough to check out Devin Hester’s 2nd Annual Youth Camp over the weekend and got to meet arguably the greatest return man in NFL history.  What I discovered is that Jay Cutler’s top target might actually be his best backup.  Check this out: I saw Jerry Angelo talk to that blond kid to sign him up to play receiver too! I got a chance to sit down with him and he told me how important it is to him to serve as a role model for kids and the importance of giving back to the community.  What he wouldn’t tell me was whether or not he’d be changing his theme song from Soulja Boy, since that seemed to have lost the magic last season.  Check out me and Devin below - that’s me on the right! All kidding aside, it was great to see Devin interact with the kids.  He genuinely enjoyed his time running around with them.   Thanks to my girl Julie Robers and ProCamps.  The “Pretty Woman” ran a great event and I look forward to seeing everyone next year!

Devin Hester needs the Eye of the Tiger

Devin Hester returns the opening kickoff of Super Bowl XLI I was shocked when I read Vaughn McClure’s post in the Chicago Tribune’s Huddle Up blog today.  “Chicago Bears Devin Hester willing to give up punt returns, just not immediately” read the headline.  Could it be?  Is the Ridiculous One, the incomparable Devin Hester ready to step down?  “I...

Hester Hosts Camp For Kids. Does Not Show How To Break Ankles

ZOMG!!!!! Devin Hester hosted a football camp for Chicago youth over the weekend. Hester preached the values of having fun in every aspect of life, along with ‘teaching’ the kids about running pass routes, and playing QB. I’m quite surprised that the kids were able to get anything out of this because usually when [...]

Bears Prominent in Top Moments of Last Decade

ESPN Zone Chicago is celebrating their 10 year anniversary with the Top 10 Most Memorable Moments in Chicago Sports over the last decade.    Three of the ten feature the Chicago Bears, including two from the incomparable Devin Hester. #2 HESTER, YOU ARE RIDICULOUS / 02.4.2007 Following a regular season in which he returned six kicks/punts for touchdowns, Bears rookie Devin Hester...

KC Joyner vs Jay Cutler - Round 2

KC Joyner is front and center at the Jay Cutler firing line once again; this time taking centerstage at The Fifth Down, the NY Times football blog penning a piece titled “Sorry, Bears Fans, Cutler Isn’t the Answer”.  Let me pull some of his gems from the post and address them one at a time: Now I understand that fan scrutiny comes with the territory, so I don&...

Jay Cutler continues to take fire

If former coaches Mike Ditka and Tony Dungy aren’t dogging him, someone else is.  The bulls eye was squarely on Jay Cutler’s back as KC Joyner was stirring it up.  In a recent online chat, he fielded a number of Jay Cutler questions: Alex (Chicago,IL) How well do you think Jay Cutler will do with the Bears this year? KC Joyner(4:10 PM) I’ve said it many times and I’ll say...

Does This Look Like The Face Of Unforced Error?

Excuse the baseball terminology. Curb your enthusiasm, Jay Cutler. First, you were crucified for your perceived cry-baby role in the well-documented, messy breakup from the Denver Broncos; well, mainly just from Josh McDaniels and his immediate blundering of the franchise. Now, via chat, you’ve been assumed to evoke memories of Bad Rex Grossman. Isn’t it illegal to [...]

FootballGuys.com: JC on 'The Audible'

How much of a frenzy has the trade for Jay Cutler created? Can any of the rookie receivers make an immediate impact? Will Brian Urlacher get back to Pro Bowl level again? JC joined Cecil Lammey and Sigmund Bloom on "The Audible" Monday morning to discuss these Chicago Bears topics and more.

Why Jay Cutler Has Landed On His Feet in Chicago

Taking advantage of the Broncos appalling man-management under Josh McDaniels in Denver, the Bears have finally added a key piece to their roster sadly missing this decade. It is still amazing how some describe Cutler as petulant. Anyone who discovered that their new boss had been trying to offer their job to another person behind their back would be seriously angered and well within...

Why Jay Cutler Will Fall Flat on His Face in Chicago

The petulant child—Jay Cutler—finally got his wish, and the blockbuster trade to the Chicago Bears commenced. Chicago now has their first "franchise" QB since Jim McMahon was taking them to the Super Bowl once upon a 1985. I still don't understand the reasoning behind labeling Cutler a franchise QB when he has a losing record as a starter (17-20) and has...

Of Modern Media and the Last Cutler Rebuttal

I am no KC Joyner. I considered my first 1,000-hit article a huge milestone. I spend my free time relishing all things Bears, scouring the edges of the Internet for a fix. What's the word on the logjam at HB?  Who's the winning the FS battle?  How's the slot position looking? I am a fan. I don't get paid to follow the Bears.  My articles make me zero...

What Josh McDaniels Was Thinking

When Mike Shanahan was fired at the beginning of 2009 he was quoted as saying that he thought any new coach coming in would be a fool to substantially change the offense. The eventual trade of Jay Cutler and revamping of the Denver Broncos has been a bone of contention for many Denver Bronco fans ever since. The end of 2008 saw the Denver offense compared to the best offenses in...

For Once The Backup QB Won't Be The Fan Favorite in Chicago

It was a constant joke while I was growing up that the most popular player on the Bears was the backup quarterback. This was mostly due to the constant quarterback competitions that occurred every year. We had Kramer/Walsh, Kramer/Mirer, Miller/McNown/Matthews, Grossman/Griese/Orton and let's not forget Ditka with Harbaugh, Flutie, and Tomczak (among others) during the 80'...

Conclusion of a mock and other links

As I've mentioned here several times over the past few months, my husband accepted a post-doc position at NYU so in a few short weeks we are moving to New York City. We'll be relying upon a moving company to get the majority of our possessions back east, but we will be the ones packing everything up...which meant we needed boxes. And a lot of them (there are only so many...
