Jevon Kearsed

After the 2003 disappointing loss to the Carolina Panthers in the NFCCG, the Eagles went into that off season with big plans. They hit free agency with a bang, and their number one target was defensive end Jevon Kearse. On the first day of free agency they signed "the Freak" for 8 years, $66 million. This was the biggest defensive contract in NFL history(at the time), and included $16 million in guaranteed money.

In all fairness, his one outside move was a large part of the Eagles success defensively during the 04 run. Not the most versatile, but he certainly required a double team and freed up other guys on the line. In fact, I clearly remember the Eagles D notoriously giving up big plays and chunks of yardage whenever he rested or was sidelined with injury which has been his downside. Unfortunately he has not been the same since the injury he sustained during the OT loss to the Giants last year, a situation that could have been avoided with better play calling. Regardless, now that Thomas has stepped up I wouldn't be surprised if he is let go in the off season. Darren Howard seems to be getting more time as of late, but it wouldn't shock me if they try to move his contract as well.

Very good point. Kearse was actually pretty decent the first two years here. I don't think Juqua Thomas is the long term solution either. Maybe it can be Victor Abiamiri, or maybe they will pursue somebody else. I just see the writing on the wall, that the freak is outta here.

I would agree that Thomas probably isn't the long term answer, but there is certainly something I like about his play. He has a solid motor and continues to push. If Q. Mikel takes over the starting role for Considine next season, they bring in a deep threat WR to put up some points early and get in situations where they can play big play offense then I think you can get away with him being the starter. The problem is that Darren Howard gets paid way too much to be a back up, and there has to be someone there for depth besides Abiamiri. So does he get another season to prove himself? I'm just trying to figure out how the d-line situation will play out. If they don't go DE then perhaps DT and reduce Pattersons playing time to balance out Trent Coles pressure with some heat from up the middle. I guess that is another advantage of JJ's having the rotation so deep, you can easily interchange the moving parts.

The freak took them to the cleaners. That's why they can't spend the money to get some top-notch free agents in there to help rebuild. They broke the bank on McNabb and they are going to be paying for that for years. Same thing happened here in Dallas. Jones broke the bank on Deion and we paid a lot of big salaries to guys who weren't playing anymore. It's harsh reality, but that the way the system works. Not sure how much cap room Philly has, but it can't be much. People keep saying the won't spend the money, but it's because they can't.

hOW BOUT THEM EAGLES.... PHUCKBOY

Still 6-8, jaip. 1-1 on the season. Our think our beatdown in Philly was a little more impressive, but I'll give you your due. You have two more games left to watch. I know we'll have more.

YOUR RIGHT...8 AND 8 IS HOW WE WILL FINISH....GURANTEED... YOU GUYS ARE GETTING KICKED OUT 1ST ROUND.... ESPECIALLY IF ROMO CRIES ABOUT HIS LITTLE THUMB. HELL ESPECIALLY IF ROMO CRIES PERIOD...DID YOU SEE THOSE FUCKN CROCODILE TEARS!!!

Well, at least he cares enough to cry about it. He damn sure hasn't done much crying this year, has he? I'm sure nobody on the Eagles has ever cried. And you aint' going 8-8. I bet you guys get trounced in N.O. this weekend. Probably a little letdown after winning your Super Bowl on Sunday. And, who are you guaranteeing thats going to beat Dallas in the first round? Have fun sitting in you green freakin' armchair with your little Eagle doll and a beer and watching the playoffs, dude.

I think (maybe more hope) Jevon will be much closer to himself in the 2008 season. Many people tend to forget, his injury last year was as bad as, and maybe even worse than, Donavans. He needs more time to rehab. Remember, Donavon is a QB and tries to avoid being hit by or hitting other players, whereas Jevon had to put pressure on his injury every play. He looks to hit other players all game! I think if he had a better agent then Drew Rosenhause we would be made more aware of this and maybe more people would be behind him.
