Sportsday:
Keith Brooking signed a three-year, $6 million deal as a free agent with the Cowboys this off-season. A complete bargain.
Igor Olshansky signed a four-year, $18 million deal with $8 million guaranteed. Another cost-effective move.
Gerald Sensabaugh signed a one-year, $1.75 million deal. He's played well although is coming back from a broken thumb. Again, another solid move. And he will be a restricted free agent after this season if there is no CBA so he's under the Cowboys' control at least through 2010.
Brooking is second on the team in tackles to Bradie James with 55. He has a sack, two tackles for loss, three pressures and three pass deflections. He's also become this team's heart beat in many ways.
Olshansky might not be as heralded because 3-4 defensive ends don't put up great numbers but his 24 stops are second-most among linemen next to Jay Ratliff. He also has a sack and four pressures.
Sensabaugh has 26 tackles and a pass deflection so far. I t...

LB Brooking says 'the expectations are very unrealistic' here
Veteran linebacker Keith Brooking has quickly become a team leader for the Cowboys. He seems to have gained the respect of everyone in the locker room, players and coaches.
Wade Phillips talked about how he was on the sideline Sunday when things were going bad against Kansas City, yelling that, "We're going to win this game," and staying positive even when it seemed...
Brooking emerges as leader
IRVING - Bradie James is the captain of the Cowboys' defense, but that doesn't mean the unit doesn't have other leaders.
I'm talking primarily about Keith Brooking, the 12th-year player the Cowboys acquired in free agency during the offseason.
Brooking's play has been a bright spot in the young season. Against the Chiefs, he turned in an inspired effort, recording...
Picked up pieces from the Chiefs' game
Keith Brooking was a mad man Sunday. He was all over the field. He is an emotional leader. He makes plays when it matters most. He had a sack for the first time since 2007, but he came up with an unreal tackle of Jamaal Charles on a screen play.
He was cut by guard Mike Goff, which should have given Charles an opening. Instead Brooking scrambled to his feet and made the tackle....
Olshansky is quietly effective
IRVING - Igor Olshansky does his work in a quiet, professional manner, and he does it quite well, according to Wade Phillips.
The defensive end was one of the unsung heroes of the OT win at K.C., recording
three tackles, six assists, two pressures and a sack.
"Igor has been a great addition for us," Phillips said. "I think the (Chiefs) running back, Larry Johnson...

Cowboys starting strong safety Gerald Sensabaugh said Wednesday that he plans to play next week against Atlanta after the team's bye week.

Gerald Sensabaugh still thinking Oct. 25
Gerald Sensabaugh had the cast and stitches removed from his right thumb Monday and is expecting to play against Atlanta on Oct. 25.
Sensabaugh would not rule out practicing this week, although Wade Phillips expects to keep all of the less-than-100 percent regulars to not work this week.
"I can't promise anything, but we'll see," Sensabaugh said about playing...

Getting the message on special teams
Special teams have been among the most improved areas for the Cowboys until last Sunday.
Mistakes included a missed field-goal attempt, Terence Newman allowing the ball to sail over his head on the punt return, pinning Dallas at its 3, and Patrick Crayton fumbling a punt out of bounds.
Adding veteran Allen Rossum, who ranks second in NFL return yards, makes sense on many levels...
