The Dallas Cowboys have gone out on a limb, and promised a roster spot to whomever wins the Michael Irvin hosted "4th and Long", with a roster spot. Well that process begins tonight when the show kicks off on Spike at 10pm. Here's a little video on the participants, and a list of the celeb guest stars, if you're interested....
Pro Football Hall of Famer Michael Irvin and Spike TV are on a quest to give a football hopeful a shot at making the Dallas Cowboys roster in the new series “4th and Long.” Premiering on Monday, May 18 (10:00-11:00pm ET/PT), Spike TV will chronicle the rigorous training, heated competition, and compelling moments among 12 talented unsigned football players – individuals who either blew their first shot at making the NFL, or never had one to begin with. In a 10-week training camp, Irvin will offer his wealth of experience and guidance to mold them into NFL-caliber players. Each week a different contestant will be cut, with the eventual victor heading to training camp with football’s legendary franchise, the Dallas Cowboys.

The twelve players participating (6 wide receivers and 6 defensive backs) have impressive pedigrees including high-school All-Americans, Arena League MVP’s and starters at Division 1 college programs such as the University of Texas, University of Oklahoma, University of North Carolina and the University of Tennessee.

Former NFL All-Pro Bill Bates will coach the defensive backs and former Dallas special-teams coach, Joe Avezzano will oversee the wide receivers. Guest stars on “4th and Long” include Pro Football Hall of Famers Jerry Rice, Tony Dorsett, and Roger Staubach along with current and former Cowboy greats Drew Pearson, Daryl Johnston, Jay Novacek, Nate Newton, Darren Woodson, Terence Newman, and Thomas “Hollywood” Henderson. Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones will also appear throughout the series.

I don't know about this one, but at least I've heard of a few of the guys involved. The show really just seems like a Hard Knocks ripoff, but with less people. And the big question is whether this is a guarateed roster spot, or just a chance to come to camp? Interesting idea, but it might not pan out for Spike.

  • I doubt Irvin has the pull to secure a final roster spot. It's probably like you said, an invitation to compete for a spot at camp. I've seen enough Hard Knocks seasons to know that getting on the final roster is highly competitive and sometimes just a numbers game. Can't imagine that even the (media loving) Cowboys would deduct a spot for a reality show winner. That said, I'll probably check out the first episode tonight.
  • UPDATE: So I watched the 1st episode and it'll probably be the last time I tune in. The drills and workout were very real and grueling but Irvin's "wisdom" and the dramatic music and voiceovers were a bit much. A couple of times it felt like America's Next Top Model. I'm rooting for a DB to win cause I roll with the defense. Best of luck to the guys, hopefully they can endure the program and Irvin's motivational speaker act.
  • "Do you have what it takes to move the chains on your life?".... Corny, but I might have to DVR it just to see...
  • I am just wondering how long it's going to take a certain someone to come in here and make a wisecrack. The clock is ticking.
  • I want to see it,Mike is OK as and announcer let see if he knows talent.Jerry Jones is sitting somewhere with his fingers cross.
  • 6 hours 15 minutes. I'm surprised he lasted that long. He's still waiting on Mike Patterson to send him some weed in exchange for the crack.
  • nothing wrong with smoking a little weed
  • People can change , dude. But, you wouldn't know anything about that.
  • I know the talent pool in the cowboy's camp can't be that depleted that they are resorting to this. who are they looking for their version of Vince Pappali.
  • Problem is. It will be watched and it will probably make money. And, if someone gets an NFL contract out of it, so be it. There are still a couple of people on this team whose jobs are in danger, so why not?
  • Thanks for confirming.
  • It was great for one reason:

He made them run 40 yard dashes in pads after working out. I don't know why more teams don't do that to get the real "football" speed of players.
  • The dallas cowboys are a pathetic organizations nowadays
  • Coming from you, I don't think we have to worry about it.
  • well "nowadays" so is tyson but you still rep him so stfu
  • the only thing in texas is steer and queers and I dont see any cattle round here!
  • Did you make that assumption by looking in the mirror?
  • what are you a scratched cd, you keep saying the same g0d d@mn thing
  • I think that would be a scratched record. Or maybe the times have changed the saying, IDK.
  • Rather be a scratched CD than a loser like you.
  • Whoa. That wasn't necessary. I wasn't talking to you. Unless you are brickz99.
  • Meant for brickz, which could be another HP ID. Who knows at this point?
  • Oh. Ok BB. My bad.
  • Thanks for the compliment. You know, people are getting to know you quite well. On the other hand, I wouldn't want to be known for having a mouth like yours. You are one of those people that talks a lot of crap, but if you came face to face with someone, you would be as quiet as a lamb and your knees would be shaking from fear. Anyway, keep it up, pottymouth. Your words are just that......words. Come see me and my friends if you make it down to Dallas sometime. I am looking forward to it. And bring some extra diapers. You may need them.
  • People are so serious in their hatred for the Cowboys. I think they hate the Cowboys more then Texans love them. Why? They hate Dallas more then they like their own team. Haters
  • Got that right. They grew up getting beaten by their fathers with a belt that had a Cowboy star on it, I think. Life is too short. Get over it.

There's Something Different About This Cowboys Team

Now that the Cowboys have lost most of their inflated egos and high maintenance players, some new leaders are beginning to emerge. 3 Headed Monster

It appears the injury to Dallas Cowboys running back Marion Barber may have turned out to be a blessing. Of course at the time it was terrible for the team and the fans. That, along with injuries to Tony Romo and flashy rookie Felix Jones may have just been what sent the Cowboys Super Bowl predicted season down the drain. Looking back at it, it was bad. Look closer and you may...

Amid all the hyperbolic talk of the Oakland Raiders being led to the edge of irrelevancy like lemmings by owner Al Davis is an obvious fact hiding in plain sight: The Raiders are very profitable.
