Receivers say they'll make plays

L.J. Smith and Reggie Brown say the team is merely hiring from within.

As the team concluded its second day of minicamp practices Sunday,Philadelphia's sixth-year tight end and fourth-year wideout said the Eagles have all the playmakers they need at receiver.

"You don't need a big-time receiver," Smith said. "People just have to stay healthy, and guys just have to know what they're doing and make plays consistently."

Brown insisted the offseason clamor that dominated hours of airtime and hundreds of column inches made no impression on him.

He said the Eagles' much-publicized attempts to acquire Randy Moss, Larry Fitzgerald and Roy Williams did not reflect on him, fellow starter Kevin Curtis or any of the team's other receivers. Or, more importantly, onMcNabb's confidence in them as playmakers.

"He's going to give us our chances," Brown said of the Eagles' quarterback. "I think he has the utmost confidence in our abilities. Well, I hope he does, because, I mean, we're who we got. We're the guys."

"Sometimes when things start to go downhill, it's hard to get it corrected," he said. "I think it's going to be a different year. It's consistency, I think. I just need to start the season out strong.

sounds positive good for them maybe now the team can move on and get to what they do and that's playin ball

dig it !!!!!!!!

Receivers can say whatever they want until the fans and the franchise see the results we're going to get on them and feel like we need an upgrade.... but hey who knows

true, but i'm only thinking positive at this point, i've had no indication not to. i would hope that the fans would take into consideration WHAT the players & team are saying, that's important know what i mean jelly bean ;0!!

Thank you for posting more Eagles news ck! Love it!!!!!!

well mom, i think i'll take this to email & thank u as always for positive feed back!!!

The reality is Brown was healthy all season and only made 4 TD's , McNabb is stuck with his sorry ass so he just has to deal with it and make due with what he was given. Every other teaam in the division has one or even two big time recievers and the Eagles chose not to give McNabb anyone. This season he will just make adjustments and focus on the things HE (McNabb) can control.

This season he will just make adjustments and focus on the things

i can agree with that, focus & play!!! i have nothing but good things to say about the team, thanks truth!!

Reggie will have a monster season...just watch.

total agreement here. especially starting against the rams, who have a porous secondary.

Consistency is the key. If we had averaged 21 points a game (instead of scoring a billion points against the Lions) we would have gone 10-6 and made the playoffs. But I think with the additions we made this year, we will be a much better team. Our defense looks to be improved/faster and should generate more turnovers. Our special teams has a dynamic returner in Jackson so our field position should also improve (thus scoring more points). We have added a ton of speed to our team. Our offense should consist of DeSean in the slot and Booker out of the backfield. Our defense added 2 speed edge rushers in Clemons/Bryan Smith and now our LB's seem to have Johnson's scheme down (Bradley in the middle is going to be awesome!). Do I even have to elaborate about us having the best secondary in the NFL? I'm very excited about this upcoming season and think our team will have a legitimate shot at winning the Superbowl. Did everyone watch the mini camp videos on the Eagles website? DeSean was making plays everywhere! I know..I know..no shoulder pads or contact, but it's hard not to get excited. :)

u have every right to be excited!!!!!

Here is an old saying DONT SAY DO. hey but good read ck.

I hope Reggie has a great season, but he needs to get bigger and stronger

The Eagles scored a franchise regular season by scoring 398 total points in 2006.

The main difference between that team offensively and the 2008 version is that Kevin Curtis has replaced Donte Stallworth.

The offensive line can do a better job of protecting McNabb than it did last season. Brent Celek and LJ Smith will make plays in the middle of the field. Westbrook and Booker are great receivers out of the backfield.

I expect McNabb to be more proficient in the red zone this season. The WR's (Curtis, Brown, Avant, Jackson, and Baskett) are talented enough to be effective in the West Coast offense.

NICE eagles2007, way to break it down.

i think everybody is forgetting about david akers n what a horrible couple years he's had. they need to bring in some competition for him to push him a little.

They did bring in a kicker, but i think he is being used mainly as a punter. Akers worked hard this offseason though, and added some muscle to his leg, hope it pays off, we'll see this preseason.

agreed RHCP!!

I think that now with two (desean and curtis) on the outside going deep that this will keep most defenses honest, they have to respect the speed so the saftey's will need to play back, leaving LJ and Brown ( I know that he plays outside too.) to have there way in the middle, not to mention westbrook. Just think of all the posibilities. I know that I wasn't with the desean pick-up at first but you gotta work with what you got.

cousind-like i've been saying: i've had plenty of time to watch reel after reel of jackson play, he's is without a doubt going to be an asset to the team. there are plenty of ppl. out in internet land that will say otherwise & that's fine, everyone's got an opinion: however sit & watch some of his playing. he WANTS to play ball & be a TEAM player, sometimes that makes all the difference in the world ;0 !!!!

we've got alot of great guys, some of them have been with us, just need that extra little compliment to help them , know what i mean :)!!!

The truth is...
That I agree that we do not need a "Big Time" receiver. However, what we need from these receivers is consistency. Donovan likes to spread the ball around, that is true, but they need to put their money where their mouths are. Philadelphia fans are naturally pessimistic about the Wide Receiver position, because we quite frankly, never seen anything impressive from them. If they want to prove that the off season bidding didn't affect them; and that they know what they're doing, they need to show that the investments made in them, were indeed worthy. They are all talented and athletic, however, they have not stood out as a core when set against the league.

The Eagles have been publicly recognized for having a mediocre group of wide receivers. It is their JOB to reverse that notion, not ours. Actions speak louder than words

As much as I like all of them, I must separate my heart with the cold hard facts. Last year L.J. was not healthy, but there are times where I have felt let down by some of the plays he couldn't complete. The same with Brown. As optimistic as I am about the wide recievers improving year by year, seeing is believing.

well puma, tis true: the ole put your money where your mouth is: so how about we let em & see what happens.
like i keep saying, the guys we have, need a compliment to them : they just might have it all in place now.
seeing is always believing, once lehigh starts, we will be seeing the breakdown and how they are going to play off of one another. donovan needs to spread the ball around, i never liked the notion of just throwin to one WR. curtis made some catches last year, that made me wonder HOW THE HELL did he do it, but he did......so lets see how it all plays out now that we have some players in place that just might, give em what they need.

I've been saying that about Akers too; he's been a good guy and at one time a great kicker but he's not the automatic weapon anymore. But for some reason, he seems to have been given a pass on what went wrong for the Eagles last year...

Lol Whoa {''LILEAGL} Reggie is a great route runner he doesn't have a 4-2 speed but he does have elusiveness. But i agress on somthings because he said he's been catching more than 100 balls everyday, but at camp I saw him drop a few easy catches. So I hope to talk about this during traning camp and it be nothing but positive's.And Nice Post CK

well i think lj might have a productive year if he wants to get a big time free agent contract!!! i as you know think reggie is horrible!!! he's slow and can't catch a cold!!! 2 most important things a receiver needs!!!! i forgot he doesn t run routes well either!! i can see why mc nabb has no faith in him!!
