Saints' Grant charged with involuntary manslaughter

BLAKELY, Ga. -- New Orleans Saints defensive end Charles Grant has been indicted on a charge of involuntary manslaughter stemming from a February altercation at a nightclub.

Grant, who was stabbed in the neck during the fracas, was charged by an Early County grand jury that also charged Laquient Macklin with felony murder and feticide in the shooting death of Korynda Reed, 23. Reed died after being taken to the Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan, after the fight early Feb. 3.

The indictment was posted on the Web site of the Early County News on Tuesday.

"We are aware and have no comment," Saints spokesman Greg Bensel said.

District Attorney Charles M. Ferguson could not be reached for comment Tuesday night.

Sheriff's Capt. Will Caudill said at the time of the melee that there was no known connection between Grant and Reed. He said the fight started inside the club and then moved outside, and Grant was attacked after shots were fired.

Woodrow Gray was indicted on a charge of aggravated assault in the knife attack on Grant, a former University of Georgia star from nearby Colquitt.

Grant was selected by the Saints in the first round of the 2002 NFL draft. He had 2½ sacks in 2007 while starting 14 games for the Saints and has 38½ over his six-year career.

In addition to Grant and Macklin, and Marshae Stromer, Anthony Wilson, Jarvis Tinson, Rodreaco Gray and Woodrow Gray were charged with involuntary manslaughter for alleged participation in the fight.

great article ck, although I doubt he'll end up in prison. if Leonard Little can stay out of jail with vehicular homicide than grant should stay free with the involuntary manslaughter...

so i should change the prison league ;0 !! i hear ya though, but it's still sad & thank u Nate!!!

yeah nate i have to agree with cho, messed up but seems to be a part of the NFL anymore.

Yeah these guys wont ever see jail, it's crazy....but sometimes guilt and your conscience can be worse than being put in any jail cell.

for a while there it was quiet , but i agree & i don't get it!!

ENOUGH WITH THE THUGS IN PROFESSIONAL SPORTS! KICK THESE TYPES OF PLAYERS OUT OF THE LEAGUE!

you just might get your wish man i'm all for that to

it's outa control brotha

tommy ye it is. time will tell the tale i suppose

And, it's another one besides a Dallas Cowboy. Imagine that!!!

i guess fiverings, not sure who on the dallas team your referring to but ;0 ! there's an update enjoy folks, i'm out

OH, just tired of hearing about all of the criminals that are supposed to be on the Dallas team. Every day another NFL player gets arrested and none of them are Cowboys. Guess I am just getting tired of hearing it from other people. An old chip on the shoulder, I guess. Not from you, just from others in general.

do yourself a favor and get over yourself and what ails you. this blog isn't even about your team.

moving on ,ck girl this is just sick what are they goin to do with this guy? i see your update below, they need to can this guy and fast.

Do me a favor and STFU!!!

When you have Tank Johnson and Pacman Jones on your team. . . I think you know where this is going.

Why don't you take a look at about 75% of the other teams in the league that have players arrested. And, did either one get arrested while he was actually a member of the team?

no, but you know Dallas is an easy target because of their profile in the league. Let's not forget some of the more reputable Cowboys through the years, Duane Thomas, Hollywood Henderson, Nate Newton, Irvin, Rafael Septien (there's a blast from the past 4 ya), Golden Richards.

Well, at the rate some players are getting arrested these days, it won't take a team or two to take that title over. I'm sure I could go back and look at several teams over the last 25 years that have had 4-5 people arrested.

we have an update:

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3406542&campaign=rss&source=NFLHeadlines

Charles Grant participated in an offseason training session at the New Orleans Saints' suburban headquarters Wednesday, a day after being indicted by a grand jury in Georgia on an involuntary manslaughter charge.
"Obviously it's something we take very seriously and certainly our condolences go out to the family" of the victim, Saints coach Sean Payton said. "What's most important is the justice system taking its process. It's something the league will handle and certainly the state of Georgia will handle."

so he was at off season huh interesting

What is it with modern day players? Does every visit to a nightclub end up with gunshots fired? If you need bodyguards (i.e. "posse") with you when you go to an entertainment venue, maybe a slightly tamer venue might be adviseable?

Whatever happened to "I'm going to Disneyland?"

good question YouGaming :) !!!! really good question!!!

and i'd like to know how my thread went from a thread about the saints to some sort of ca ca fest........i dont' do ca ca, you all have issues take em elsewhere not on my threads, thanks
