Shutdown Corner:
Lost from the Saints 24-10 handling of the Jets yesterday was this filthy
little play from Mark Sanchez(notes), throw a completely unnecessary shot at the knees
of Jonathan Vilma(notes).
Hm. Remind you of
anyone?
It was a dirty play for Brett Favre(notes), and it's an even dirtier one for
Sanchez. At least Favre was attempting to make a block to get a few extra yards
for a ball carrier. Sanchez's knee-dive appears to be completely gratuitous.
Vilma, as you might suspect, wasn't happy about it.
"Actually, I was surprised he (cut me)," Vilma said in the Saints locker room. "I was very surprised. I don't know what he was doing, to be honest with you. I saw him, and thought he was just trying to buy time, and then he goes and cuts me. It was kind of dirty, and he got the penalty for it."
It wasn't an attempt to make a tackle; it was just an attempt at a man's
knees. Now, I'm not saying that Sanchez is a dirty player or that he was...

Link: Saints on Sanchez
Although the Saints were impressed with rookie QB Mark Sanchez, there was one hole in his game they noticed, and took advantage of. Good defenses are going to pick up on cues about another team, and it seems that the Saints, led by Jonathan Vilma and his intense film study, knew one of rookie Mark Sanchez’s flaws (for now) in his game.
LB Scott Fujita said Sanchez has a tendency...
Mark Sanchez Earns His Nickname
One of the more head-scratching plays on Sunday was Mark Sanchez diving at the knees of lead blocker Jonathan Vilma on Darren Sharper’s 99-yard pick-six. Sanchez was the last Jet with a shot of making a tackle, so it’s unclear what exactly Sanchez had in mind besides destroying the knee ligaments of a franchise linebacker.
So [...]

Grading Jets-Saints
Here come the microscopes. Suddenly, everybody has a zoom lens on Mark Sanchez, highlighting his flaws:
He doesn’t protect the ball. He stares down his receivers. He takes cheap shots when required to tackle. (Ask ex-Jet Jonathan Vilma.) His body language is bad.
Yeah, his body language. That comes from Saints DT Sedrick Ellis, a former USC teammate. This...
Hit on Vilma is off the Mark
On Darren Sharper's 99-yard interception return Sunday, Mark Sanchez gave chase and - for some reason - dived at the legs of former Jets LB Jonathan Vilma, who was blocking. Sanchez was flagged for a personal foul.
New Orleans Columnist Pulls A Buzz Bissinger
In an attempt to rile up Saints fans and find an angle on a column for a game that needs no angle, Times-Picayune columnist Chris Rose has taken offense with everything New York.
There’s a lot to break down here, so I’ll take it one by one.
First, the “prognosticators”.
You could see it coming a mile away: Now that the Saints are 3-0, the cocksure prognosticators...
