Jeremiah Trotter may be sticking with this team for awhile after all. Andy Reid revealed Omar Gaither has a Lis Franc sprain in his foot during today's presser, and he will require season-ending surgery to fix the damage.
Gaither has been dinged up all season, and this would be a much more serious blow to the club if not for Tuesday's Witherspoon acquisition. Even still, Gaither's a quality player who could play all three linebacker positions, so there's nothing favorable about having him go down for the year.
As we said at the top, it likely means Trotter stays despite a pair of miserable performances against Tampa Bay and Oakland. This team seems to have no trust in Joe Mays even as a reserve, which might be just a little unfair considering just how bad 54 has looked so far. Maybe he needs some time to adjust to the speed of the game, but through two games, he's not been very promising.
Meanwhile, Gaither is set to become a free agent in 2010, meaning he may have played his final game in an Eagles uniform. If the NFL and its Players' Union don't reach a new Collective Bargaining Agreement, he'll only be a restricted free agent and would likely return, but outside that scenario it's unlikely the Birds would make him an offer, and equally unlikely he would accept.
In other injury news, Victor Abiamiri is out Monday night with a bum knee, and The Fanatic's Brian Seltzer is Tweeting Kevin Curtis is seeking a second opinion on his own knee condition. He's been battling the injury for awhile now, and apparently believes it may be worse than originally thought.
