We aren't even to the midway point of the NFL season and we have already experienced some pretty significant injuries. Nothing like the loss we incurred this following Sunday when Ronnie Brown went down in the New England game, however no injury has been as big as that one. It's unfortunate because Brown was the only bright spot playing on a losing team in Miami and this seasons top fantasy point producer for all running backs. However, changes and being able to adapt to change is an extremely significant aspect of fantasy football and the NFL, therefore, playing the waiver wire is extremely important when trying to fit all the pieces together.
This week there are some serious thoughts to consider when looking at and/or acquiring some help from the waiver wire, but there are some quality choices for now and for the upcoming weeks.
Quarterbacks:
Sage Rosenfels (Houston): Matt Schaub is day to day with a hip injury and Rosenfels was extremely effective against the Titans passing for 290 yards and 3 touchdowns. This week the Texans may get a break by playing San Diego at home and if you decide not to play Rosenfels this week you can play him in week 9 against the Raiders.
Running Backs:
Michael Bennet (Tampa): Whoever got Ernest Graham sure is happy because now that Bennet is in Tampa he will surely push him for that starting spot. Once again the vulnerability from unproven backs makes Bennet a must pick-up in all fantasy leagues.
Jesse Chatman (Miami): You can never have too many backs and with Brown going down Chatman is worth picking up due to the lack of vulnerability and depth at the position.
Dominic Rhodes (Oakland): It's highly unlikely that Rhodes is on any fantasy roster. Lamont Jordan appears healthy but I think he just wants to hold onto his starting job by playing injured. Nothing wrong with that other than he will be ineffective. Keep an eye on Rhodes!
Maurice Morris (Seattle): At some point Holmgren is going to have to make some sort of change and do what's best for the team. Alexander isn't 100% and has remained ineffective for several weeks. Morris received 10 carries last week and caught 2 passes for 18 yards.
Wide Receivers:
Kevin Walter (Houston): It's now time to pick up this 6′3 215 lb wide-receiver with great hands. When you figure that Rosenfels and Walter spent plenty of time developing a rapport on the 2nd team you'd also have to figure that Walter will see plenty of touches with Rosenfels starting.
Ted Ginn Jr. (Miami) With the departure of Chris Chambers look for Ginn Jr. to find plenty of opportunity. Now that he's healthy Ginn Jr. should have a spot on a fantasy roster.
Devin Hester (Chicago): As much as I hate to say this Hester is worth a look in the deepest of fantasy league formats. If he's going to continue to catch passes and offer a return touchdown, Hester is definitely worth a roster spot. You can't tell me that you're not getting consistent zero's from your bench.
Vernon Davis (TE 49ers) With 4 catches last week and Dilfer's inability to throw down field it's time to pick Davis back up.
