The Buffalo Bills have been trimming the fat from their defense letting go of veterans Nick Barnett and George Wilson, but they won’t let star safety Jairus Byrd hit free agency. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com, Byrd will be franchised and will be around for at least one more year. He was drafted by the Bills in the second round of the 2009 NFL Draft and has become one of the top playmaking safeties in the game. Byrd will make $6.9 million under the tag. Rapoport writes: ‘Following the release of George Wilson last month, Buffalo wasn't going to allow Byrd to slip away. He's their most talented player in the secondary and one of the few Bills last season with a knack for generating turnovers. Expect the Bills to continue to negotiate with Byrd's people toward a new deal.’ var switchTo5x=true; stLight.options({publisher:''});
