Next year, starting defensive tackles Fred Robbins and Barry Cofield may not be wearing blue. There is several reasons for the Giants not to retain Robbins and Cofield. They are in the last year of their current contracts, suffered knee injuries, and they have not played at a high level. In addition, Giants GM Jerry Reese broke the bank this past off season on defensive linemen Chris Canty and Rocky Bernard. Canty signed a six year 42 million dollar deal. And Bernard inked a four year 16 million dollar contract. Robbins, a ten year veteran, will be turning 33 in 2010. Along with his age, during this past off season, he had microfracture surgery. Is it his age or the surgery which has affected his play in 2009? This year, Robbins has one sack and 18 tackles. Barry Cofield is seven years younger than Robbins.
