With the opening kickoff in the air, Titans fans had reason to be hopeful for the 2013 season.  With a revamped offensive line and a young defense, beating the Pittsburgh Steelers seemed possible.  However, one second into the game, it looked like this would another disappointing year for the Tennessee Titans. In an attempt to knee the opening kickoff back up running back and kick returner, Darius Reyanud, took a step out of the end zone prior to taking a knee, which resulted in a safety and 2 points for Pittsburgh.  With 14:59 on the clock, the Steelers managed to take a 2-0 lead and gain possession. Though the Steelers jumped out to an early lead, the Titans were resilient stifling the Steelers in every facet of the game. Leading 7-2 at the half, the Tennessee surge was led by a slew of surprising faces.  Veteran running back, Jackie Battle, scored on a two-yard touchdown run while newly acquired tight end, Delanie Walker, displayed his athleticism.  On the other side of the ball, cornerback Alterraun Verner intercepted Ben Roethlisberger swinging the momentum in favor of the Titans. Tennessee refused to take their foot off the gas coming out of the locker room for the second half.  Led by Zach Brown and Pro Bowler, Bernard Pollard, the Titans held the Steelers to a mere 14 yards in the third quarter without allowing a single first down. Tennessee struggled to put together drives resulting in touchdowns but veteran kicker Rob Bironas added three field goals in the second half leading to a 16-2 lead for the Titans. It was a pleasant sight to watch the role players dominate the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday but the big named players featured on the Tennessee offense cannot go unmentioned. Jake Locker was unable to throw a touchdown but efficiently went 11 of 20 for 125 yards with no turnovers.  Though Jackie Battle scored the lone Tennessee touchdown, Chris Johnson touched the ball 25 times with 70 yards on the ground allowing Locker and the offense to shave minutes off the clock preventing a Pittsburgh comeback. Most football fans would agree that this was not the prettiest of games but a victory is a victory and the Tennessee Titans are 1-0 in 2013 after beating the Pittsburgh Steelers 16-9 in Week 1.
