Jim Harbaugh has watched each of his two quarterbacks lead the San Francisco 49ers to big wins in hostile, road environments - Alex Smith in the season opener at Green Bay's Lambeau Field back in September, and Colin Kaepernick on Sunday at the New Orleans Superdome.
Which one gets the ball on Sunday at St. Louis? Harbaugh is still mum on that, though he did say Monday he will formally announce his starting quarterback by mid-week so the players don't have to face constant questions about what they know about the situation.
The NFC West-leading Niners (8-2-1) now own the second-best record in the NFC behind Atlanta as they head to face the Rams in a game that will mean plenty for both teams after their 24-24 tie Nov. 11.

Last week, San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh declined to announce the team’s starting quarterback prior to their game against the New Orleans Saints. From the begining I’ve believe Kaepernick gives the 49ers the best chance to win, so I believe this is the best move for them.

It Appears Kapernick is the Answer for the 49ers
As you probably know by now, I'm a huge fan of the San Francisco 49ers and have been ever since I can remember. So can imagine how great I feel to see the 'Niners do well. Before last season, I haven't been able to say that for a while, since the 49ers didn't make the playoffs every year since the '02-'03 season. To be honest, I didn't expect the team...
Don’t feel sorry for Alex Smith
The reaction to Alex Smith losing the San Francisco 49ers starting gig to Colin Kaepernick has been strange to say the least. Smith has received an outpouring of sympathy and support from fans and media who apparently just started watching Smith play in 2011.
Straight Outta Stockton - Week 12
This week's Straight Outta Stockton could easily be renamed Straight Outta Aikman as the lead NFL on Fox analyst had a rough time during yesterday's Saints-49ers game. While a few of those are noted below, I have to pay tribute to the work Aikman is doing to the English language. Multiple times during Sunday's telecast, Aikman said "I don't disagree"...

Vernon Davis: 'Alex is still our guy'
Even though Colin Kaepernick led the 49ers to a win over the Saints, tight end Vernon Davis nevertheless voiced his support for benched starter Alex Smith.

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Alex Smith, sidelined since Nov. 11 with a concussion, was cleared to play today against the New Orleans Saints in the Superdome, but Colin Kaepernick is the starter. It will be the second start for Kaepernick, the second-year player out of Nevada, who helped demolish the Chicago Bears Monday night, 32-7. Smith is the only other active quarterback...

Alex Smith, Brandon Jacobs Active For 49ers
The San Francisco 49ers' list of inactive players Sunday features two notable absences.
Quarterback Alex Smith is active for the first time since suffering a concussion against St. Louis in Week 10. Running back Brandon Jacobs, a non-factor for the 49ers to this point in the season, is also active.
The 49ers have not announced whether Smith or second-year quarterback Colin...
Report: Alex Smith could be done in San Francisco
According to Jay Glazer of FOX Sports, this could be quarterback Alex Smith’s final season with the San Francisco 49ers if he doesn’t regain his starting spot now that Colin Kaepernick has taken over as Niners’ lead signal-caller.
The 49ers didn’t draft Kaepernick in the 4th round of the 2011 draft to sit and watch. It’s obvious that he’s ready to take over as their...
