Life is all fun and games…until someone STABS YOU

The San Francisco 49ers enjoyed a resurgent 2011 campaign, coming one overtime loss shy of making it to the Super Bowl. Part of the reason was a staunch defense that ranked among the league’s best all season, helped by the addition of seventh overall pick Aldon Smith. Smith burst onto the scene with a breakout rookie year, recording a franchise rookie-record 14 sacks, most amont all NFL rookies, along with a pair of forced fumbles. Smith has been enjoying himself pretty heavily celebrating his NFL success perhaps to a fault as a party Aldon attended got a bit out of hand over the weekend.

From ESPN.com:

The San Francisco 49ers say linebacker Aldon Smith suffered minor injuries during an incident Friday night in San Jose, Calif., and that he is recovering comfortably.

A person with knowledge of the situation told The Associated Press that Smith suffered stab wounds.

Those sound like wildly different stories. The 49ers are saying that he got a bit of a boo-boo, but is home safe and recovering with a warm cup of cocoa. The other report: he was stabbed! Is Aldon Smith really just the dreaded Black Knight, shrugging it off as nothing more than a flesh wound? Was there reports of him threatening to bite anyone kneecaps off?

According to The Sacramento Bee, deputies from the Santa Clara County sheriff’s office were called to a house party at about 2 a.m. on Saturday after receiving reports of gunshots. When police arrived, they found two people shot and another stabbed.

The Bee reported that all three were taken to the hospital with what were believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.

A source told the Bee the stabbing victim was Smith. A spokesman for the Santa Clara County sheriff’s department, meanwhile, would not comment on the identity of the victims.

The party was so large — more than 100 people were estimated to be there — that deputies called for backup from the San Jose police and the California Highway Patrol, Sgt. Jose Cardoza told the Bee.

So look for Aldon Smith’s cameo in the sequel to Project X: Project 11 (tagline: ‘This one goes all the way up to 11?).

This is the second off-field incident for Smith this offseason, the first coming in January when Smith was charged with driving under the influence in Miami Beach. With the strict “Protect the Shield” PR policy of the NFL currently in place, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Smith get a call from the commissioner, though it could be argued that Smith wasn’t nearly as much at fault in this one. Of course, he did get in the way of that guy’s knife, and that can’t really go unpunished.

The police are still investigating and the 49ers are waiting to comment on the situation until it is resolved by the authorities, but they may want to try and reign in the hard-partying ways of their young star. That, or get E! to pair him up with Rob Gronkowski for their own reality series called “Party Bros.”

Because if there’s one thing that America loves, it’s watching successful people party to excess, so there’s no doubt it would be a huge success. Plus, Roger Goodell could use the footage to uphold the likely numerous suspensions he’ll hand out for “conduct embarrassing to the league” when the duo inevitably has a crossover episode with the Kardashians.
