San Francisco 49ers quarterback Alex Smith and cornerback Carlos Rogers made it clear on Monday that they would love to re-sign with the Niners for next season.
Both Smith and Rogers were signed to one year contracts this past offseason and will hit the free agent market if the 49ers don’t get them locked up with new deals.
Smith isn’t in a rush right now to get a deal done.
“Not in a crazy rush at this point as far as today, tomorrow,” Smith
said. “I think we’ll kind of take our time a little bit. I think I
have ’til March 13 or something, when the contract’s up. But I think
sooner than later, no question, don’t want it to go too long.”
Smith didn’t want to answer whether or not he wants to test the open market.
“I’m not going to get into that,” said Smith.
“I mean, At this point I love it here, love what’s going on, love this
team, the coaching staff, everything about it,” he said. “No question,
would love to stay here.”

Scattered notes in advance of the NFC Championship Game:
* With a 49ers' victory today, quarterback Alex Smith will earn his 15th win as a starter this season, four fewer than he had from 2005-10. With a win, Smith's career record as...
SAN FRANCISCO Alex Smith reared back and launched a deep throw toward 49ers wide receiver Kyle Williams. It was early in the second quarter, the score tied 7-7, and Williams was streaking up the middle of the field with a step, or three, on the nearest New York Giants defensive back.
Cornerback Carlos Rogers and safety Dashon Goldson, two of the 49ers' pending free agents, won't play in Sunday's Pro Bowl because of injuries, the team announced Tuesday.
Vernon Davis caught a 73-yard touchdown pass from Alex Smith, and the San Francisco 49ers jumped out to a 7-0 lead over the New York Giants after the first quarter of the NFC championship game Sunday.
A fairly good Baltimore defensive effort was wasted by a terrible field goal try. I'm a former high school kicker (keep that on the down low though will you....chicks never dig the kicker) and I could not believe how bad he hooked that thing. Everything was set up for a Raven win. They kept the Pats under 24 points, forced Brady and others into turnovers and still.....it was...
- And we’re off! On the line is just a trip to the Super Bowl to take on the New England Patriots in Indy!
- The Niners picked up a quick first-down, but the Giants defense held after that and forced the first Andy Lee punt.
- Good non-call on Carlos Rogers’ defense on Travis Beckum.

With LaRon Landry’s health in question from the Achilles injury two years ago that is still giving him problems, it makes you wonder what’s next for the Redskins secondary. Carlos Rogers leaving for San Francisco didn’t help either. You have to notice the huge void left in that part of the defense. After last year’s draft, we can safely say that the...
