Alex Smith told Yahoo! Sports that he was “so happy” about his team making the Super Bowl (Credit: AP Photo) During the team’s week ten match up against the St. Louis Rams, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Alex Smith was knocked out of the game in the first half with a concussion. Head coach Jim Harbaugh placed back up Colin Kaepernick into the game. When Smith was cleared to play football again, Harbaugh stuck with Kaepernick as the team’s starter. Since becoming the team’s starter, Kaepernick is 5-1, including two playoff wins and a trip to the Super Bowl. Last season, Alex Smith came up short of making the Super Bowl by losing to the New York Giants in the NFC Championship game. With the success of Colin Kaepernick, it is obvious that Alex Smith’s days in San Francisco are numbered. After yesterday’s win over the Atlanta Falcons and a trip to the Super Bowl, Yahoo! Sports asked Alex Smith how he felt about watching another quarterback lead the 49ers to the Super Bowl. “I’m so happy, man,” Alex Smith told Michael Silver of Yahoo! Sports. “This is so surreal. It’s such a crazy time, such a crazy moment. Obviously, it’s been a unique year, and it would be great to be in there. But I couldn’t be happier. This is a great group of guys, and they’re all Super Bowl-bound. I’m just so happy for all of them.” It is nice to seem Smith is happy for his teammates as he must know how much this means to them. • He's showing plenty of class by saying all the right things, and I guess he can't really spin it any other way. But with all the teams that need QB's in the league he should also say he wants out so he can start somewhere else. Most likely he already has his agent working on just that so he can go somewhere else and be a starter again.
