When Andrew Luck took the field for the first time in his NFL career and tossed the ball to Donald Brown, who then managed to streak up the field, flat outrunning the St. Louis Rams' defense, scoring the first touchdown of the game, there was a lot of surprised laughter, and some knowing smiles exchanged between the fans.

That looked familiar.

Peyton Manning's first career pass was a long TD, as well. A nice spiral to Marvin Harrison. It was just the first of many times the two would hook up.

The comparisons between Andrew Luck and Peyton Manning have been nearly endless. Both of them were star college quarterbacks projected to be the top overall draft pick at the end of their junior year and both decided to stay in school their senior year. (Luck stayed to finish his degree, Manning to enjoy some free time.) Both QBs were the top overall draft picks once they did leave school. The similarities go on and on.

A nice difference for Indianapolis fans, though, is that Andrew Luck's first game had a happy ending.

The Colts ended up beating the Rams 38-3 in their first preseason-opening win since 1994.

Granted, this is preseason. It's not unheard of for a college star to start off nice and then fizzle out. (Ryan Leaf, anyone?) Let's not all go out and buy Andrew Luck bobble heads just yet. The point is, Luck winning this game goes a long way in getting the people of Indianapolis to start to accept him as their new football figurehead.

So, can anyone really compare to Indianapolis' golden boy?

Andrew Luck proved he's going to give it a shot.
