Today is the first day of school for a lot of children across the United States. And while most of their first day is consumed with meet and greets, it won't be too long until the kids get some free time to color some fantastic pictures for Mom and Dad. Ya know, pictures that look exactly like the one first round Colts draft pick Andrew Luck did that fetched $1500 off an eBay auction over the weekend.

Luck, who earned a degree in architecture design from Stanford, was one of 35 NFL rookies who attended the NFLPA Rookie Premier in which they were handed a 2 1/2-by-3 1/2 piece of cardboard and told to “sketch something.”  Each of the players, who also included Robert Griffin III and Brandon Weedon autographed their picture and each picture was randomly given away at the Panini America’s wrapper-redemption program at the 2012 National Sports Collectors Convention

The item of course made its way to eBay by seller BryceHarper (??--can't be the real MLB player but he does have a stellar feedback rating) where it sold for a ridiculous $1500. And that's almost double what another auction got for a Peyton AND Luck signature on the same card and almost triple what Luck's other items have sold for.  From Panini America:

"Earlier this month, a 2012 Elite Football Passing the Torch card autographed by both Luck and Peyton Manning sold for $830.99. His 2012 Elite Football Hard Hats Autograph changed hands for $548.08; his 2012 Elite Football Turn of the Century Autograph card bearing the sequential number 12/99 — his jersey number — sold for $450; and one of his Prestigious Picks signed prime-piece jersey cards from 2012 Prestige Football sold for $425."

While many of us would balk at a price tag of $1500 for something their kid will come home from school with in a few days, it goes to show you should NEVER throw away your child's drawings because some schmuck will buy it in 20 years if your kid ever turns out to be the first overall pick in the NFL Draft after their HOF QB skips town for another horse-named team.

Somewhere JaMarcus Russell is buying a box of crayons as we speak.
