by Dennis J. GeorgatosFiled under: Chiefs, AFC West, NFL Training CampA track record of play-making could get backup linebacker Andy Studebaker a more prominent role in the Chiefs defense. Studebaker has made the most of his opportunities and the Chiefs are considering using him as a nickel pass rusher, taking over the outside linebacker spot on passing downs and moving Mike Vrabel inside. Studebaker started two games for an injured Vrabel last season and made an impact in the Chiefs' upset of the Pittsburgh Steelers. He broke up two passes and intercepted two others, including one that he returned 94 yards for a touchdown. A converted defensive end who switched to outside linebacker when the Chiefs went to a 3-4 scheme a year ago, Studebaker appears to be the heir apparent to Vrabel, who at 35 returned to the Chiefs after signing a one-year contract.
