Cowboys’ outside linebacker Anthony Spencer was fined by league offices on Wednesday for an illegal hands-to-the-face penalty on Michael Vick in last week’s loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, the second consecutive year in which Spencer has been fined in the wake of a loss to Philly.
The fine of $7,500 this week comes as the result of a first quarter play, on which Spencer almost had the sack of Vick, but instead flew by him, only managing to get a couple fingers in Vick’s facemask. Despite the penalty, the play resulted in a first down on a 28-yard pass from Vick to Riley Cooper.
Last season, Spencer was fined $12,500 for hitting Vick in the head during the Cowboys’ 30-27 loss to the Eagles in Dallas. With the fine, Spencer becomes the sixth Cowboy this season to have their wallet lightened by NFL offices.
