If you still don’t understand the importance of drafting when it comes to fantasy football, wait until you hear the story of Buffalo Bills RB Fred Jackson’s wife.  Let’s just say that when it came to drafting running backs, she didn’t put too much faith or value in her husband.

For the last few years Jackson has been one of the more underrated players in the league, quietly churning out productive seasons despite being undrafted out of tiny Coe College.  This year, however, Jackson is putting up MVP type numbers and is a big reason the Bills are 5-2 and perched atop the AFC East.  Still, his last couple of seasons of viable fantasy production didn’t sway his wife into picking him in her fantasy draft this year until the 5th round.

Talk about your all-time late round value pick.

Jackson’s wife Danielle, who plays in a fantasy football league with a group of family and friends, didn’t even take her husband as her first running back, choosing to go with the Falcons’ Michael Turner.  This didn’t sit well with the Bills star, as you can well imagine.

From the Buffalo News…

“[I told her] I’m not going to continue to sit here if you’re skipping over me in these rounds. If you don’t take me, I’m going to call your brother and tell him to pick me up,” Jackson said.

Needless to say, it’s worked out so far.

“She told me she’s happy she got me,” he said. “She’s in first place right now. I told her I want half of the winnings.”

Being skipped over in a fantasy draft is bad enough, but who are these other friends and family members who passed Jackson over as well?  Guaranteed that in next year’s draft Jackson’s wife won’t be able to make her hubby a late round steal, especially if he keeps up his tremendous play for the remainder of the season.
