Arizona Cardinals (5-10) at San Francisco 49ers (10-4-1) It’s usually a smart thing to take well coached teams off a loss. They’re generally extra focused in a bounce back game the following week. Bill Belichick is 35-20 ATS off a loss since 2000. Mike McCarthy is 22-13 ATS in that spot since 2006. Mike Tomlin is 17-13 ATS in that spot since 2007. Sean Payton is 20-12 ATS in that spot since 2006. Of the current NFL Head Coaches who have won a Super Bowl with their current team, only Tom Coughlin (27-24 ATS) doesn’t have a very impressive ATS record off a loss. Jim Harbaugh doesn’t have a Super Bowl ring yet like the 5 I just mentioned, but everything he’s done so far suggests he’ll be in that group someday. He’s already got a very impressive, albeit limited, resume off a loss or tie, going 7-1 ATS and 8-0 SU. That one ATS loss was only because he declined a safety late against Seattle and it could have been a push depending on the line you got (it opened at -7, but went towards -9 b...

Screengrab Snafu: It's been a rough year for Mark Lindley

How pathetic is the Arizona Cardinals quarterbacking situation?  They feature not one, but two quarterbacks at the bottom of ESPN's Total QBR rankings.  Any time you rank below Brandon Weeden AND Mark Sanchez in any metric ranking quarterbacking skill, it may be time to consider the CFL as a real option.  To add insult to injury, ESPN couldn't even care enough to get Ryan...

Arizona's Horton could be future NFL head coach

In a miserable season for his Arizona Cardinals, defensive coordinator Ray Horton is nonetheless a rising star in NFL coaching circles. Expect Horton to be interviewed for some head coaching positions this offseason. Perhaps even in Arizona, should the Bidwill family decide to fire coach Ken Whisenhunt. Horton was saying all the right things Friday after the team's final practice...

Rating the Arizona Cardinals starting quarterbacks since 1988.

Okay, the original plan was to rate Arizona quarterbacks in some sort of sequential hierarchy since the Cardinals moved from St. Louis to Tempe, Arizona in 1988. After further review, this plan seemed frivolous.  Only two quarterbacks have taken the Cardinals to the playoffs since arriving in the desert, Kurt Warner and Jake Plummer. Kurt Warner has by far the most eye popping...

Arizona Cardinals at San Francisco 49ers: Three Bold Predictions

Although on the surface this game may look like a yawner, when looking at the possible playoff implications it gets a lot more interesting.  With a San Francisco 49ers win and Green Bay Packers loss, the 49ers would get a very important first round bye in the playoffs.  Even though the Cardinals have been eliminated from the playoffs, head coach Ken Whisenhunt has found himself...

Source: Gronkowski practices at normal level, should be ready for playoffs

Good news for the New England Patriots, as tight end Rob Gronkowski has increased his practice workload to the normal level that prepares him for a game, according to a source familiar with how the team’s practice repetitions were divided, per Mike Reiss of ESPN Boston. That means, even if we don't see him Sunday against the Miami Dolphins, he'll be ready for the playoffs...

The names on that list include Bruce Arians, Pete Carroll, Mike Smith and Jim Harbaugh. No Belichick. Here is Rosenthall's reasoning for leaving Belichick off that top tier of coaches.Belichick's defense hasn't quite...
