We hare at DJC don’t put a lot of stock in any one pre -season game, or in the score, but look to judge the Detroit Lions on what they do over the four pre-season contests. Of course even that is not a great indicator. The year this team went winless they were 4-0 in the pre-season. What we are saying is pre-season doesn’t mean a whole heck of a lot, and we are kind of glad the Lions exposed some of the things they need to work on. If we saw them, then the coaching staff should’ve seen them and that usually means those things will get worked on. For pre season game #1 (which I had to watch today because of the Olympics and a mini vacation, plus a trip to Toledo to see the Mudhens at work). I watched part of the game on TV Friday night as a fan, but really watched it today, and like most of you I saw some troubling things. First and foremost being the lack of continuity between QB Matthew Stafford and any receiver not named Calvin Johnson. When Stafford throws to Calvin he looks as g...

Detroit Lions 2012 Positional Preview: Quarterback

In 2011, the Detroit Lions' stunning reversal of fortune was driven by many unique variables, perhaps the most important of which was an uptick in play and health at the quarterback position. Finally, Matthew Stafford stayed upright and played a full season. In the process, he showed fans how grand football life can be when a team finally finds "their guy" at the signal...

Has Kellen Moore’s Fate Been Sealed by Detroit Lions’ Rash of Injuries?

Lions CB Houston doesn't feel pressure of big role

Detroit Lions cornerback Chris Houston says he doesn't feel any pressure about his role with the team. It's a big one. Houston appears to be one of the most valuable players the Lions (No. 11 in the AP Pro32) have, especially on defense. He has experience and talent in a secondary that desperately needs it. Rookie cornerback Bill Bentley is projected to start opposite...

Schwartz to correct penalty-ridden season

ALLEN PARK, Mich. -- Despite their playoff run a year ago, the Detroit Lions were labeled as an undisciplined team that takes too many foolish penalties. Guilty as charged, but they insist they're trying to do something about it. The Lions were charged with only one penalty in their preseason opener last week, a 19-17 loss to Cleveland. And that lone personal-foul penalty...

Lions fully aware of rival talk

For better or worse, the Detroit Lions have the attention of their NFC North Division rivals. The Lions are well aware of what's being said about them, according to offensive lineman Rob Sims, and they apparently plan to address it at the appropriate time on the field. First it was Green Bay receiver Greg Jennings, who told the NFL Network earlier this summer, Theyre a very...

Detroit Lions invite off duty officers to enjoy training camp

There’s some jokes in here about the Detroit Lions having half of Detroit Police Department on speed dial. Or knowing them all on a first name basis. Or getting acquainted with future suspects. But I won’t make those jokes cause this was really a nice gesture. The Detroit Lions had the biggest number of arrests this off season and it makes sense to invite the officers that protect...

Lions may lean on RB Williams in thin backfield

(Eds: Updates. With AP Photos.) By LARRY LAGE AP Sports Writer Keiland Williams was with the Washington Redskins a year ago, believing he had a shot to start after showing signs of promise as a rookie. The Redskins surprised Williams by cutting him just before last season and he was claimed by the Lions the next day to bolster their depth without then-rookie Mikel Leshoure and with...
