Attention Critics: Mark Sanchez is Not a Terrible Quarterback

Time and time again, Jets fans have to defend the ability of our Quarterback, Mark Sanchez.

Sanchez is undeniably a polarizing figure. Often times, he receives too much acclaim or too much vitriol for his play on the field and the image he portrays off-the-field. If you are a pure blooded castigator, Sanchez is an easy target. Whether it's his tighty-whitey pants in GQ, his inconsistent play, or his ability to be easily captivated by show tunes, you have a wide array of angles to spit blood-soaked hate in his direction. 

You wanna call him a fairy for loving show tunes? FINE, go for it. You wanna ridicule him for getting too close and personal with credulous 17 year old females? GO RIGHT AHEAD. You want to point out his average completion percentage or inability to score in the 1st Quarter? GET JIGGY WITH IT. If we are having a debate about Mark Sanchez, I'll even help you think of jokes around these topics. IT'LL BE A REAL NICE EVENING. 

But what you CAN'T say about Mark Sanchez is that he is a terrible Quarterback. 

You CAN'T say that Sanchez doesn't make plays in big spots. 

And you definitely CAN'T say that he doesn't have the ability to lead the Jets to a Super Bowl someday. 

FACT: You sound like a misinformed idiot if you mutter any of these sentences above. You're just blinded by your own hate. You're like a central park horse who's wearing blinders and just ******** all over the sidewalk hoping that tourists step in it. That's how miserable and ridiculously hatterrific you sound and you should just stop now. 

LET ME MAKE THIS CLEAR. Mark Sanchez, #6 for the New York Jets, needs to improve. He is no where near his potential at this point in his career. He has flaws that need to be addressed. He has inconsistencies in his game that need to be sewn up. He is no where near a perfect QB. ANY Jets fan knows this very well. 

Here are 5 characteristics what a terrible QB looks like:

1. You never engineer any game winning drives or comeback wins
2. You don't have the respect of your teammates
3. You don't get better as you play more games
4. You don't get to the playoffs or win games in the playoffs once you get there
5. You get injured all the time and can't consistently stay on the field

Let's apply Sanchez to numbers 1-5 above:

1. Sanchez has orchestrated 7 4th Quarter comebacks and 8 game winning drives in his short career. To put this in perspective, Aaron Rodgers has 3 4th quarter comebacks and 5 Game winning drives. (I'm not saying Sanchez is better than Rodgers so relax over there).
2. Any follower of the Jets can reasonably assume that each and every Jets player respects their captain, Mark Sanchez. Nothing has ever suggested otherwise.
3. Sanchez has improved in the following statistical categories since his rookie year: QB Rating, Yards per game, Net yards gained per pass attempt, TD%, Completion%, and I can find more if you'd like. 
4. Sanchez has been the Quarterback on a team that has made it to the Playoffs 2 out of 3 years and has won 4 out of 6 playoff games. All on the road. 
5. Sanchez has never missed a start in his career this far. #knocksonwood

So if you are an intelligent person, how can you earnestly and realistically tell me that Sanchez is a terrible Quarterback? You can't. AT WORST, he is a slightly above average QB. At best, he is one of the best young QB's in the game. Not too mention he only started one year in college. Based on his age, experience, and a myriad of other factors, he has already accomplished more in 2.5 years than 80% of what the rest of the NFL QB's.

So in the future, if you want to tweet at me, email me, text me or send me (or any Jets fan) an effin smoke signal about Mark Sanchez, choose your words wisely or prepare to swiftly lose an argument.
