Austin On Missed TD: "I Wish I Would've Reacted Better"

Tony Romo took a lot of heat for losing that playoff game to the Giants back in 2007, despite the fact that Patrick Crayton dropped a sure touchdown, and potentially the game-winning score; and now, Romo is catching heat for missing Miles Austin on a sure touchdown against the Giants last week, and in all likelihood a game-winner that would have given Dallas a leg up in the playoff race. In this case as in that case, we’re inclined to point out that, really, Romo did his part--as Tim MacMahon from ESPN Dallas words it today, lofting the ball “toward the middle of the field, knowing there wasn’t a safety there, to let Austin run under it.” Which is true. It was a case of, as announcers are so fond of saying, “just throwing it up and letting the receiver go get it.” Only Austin didn’t react quickly enough to make the catch, leaving Dallas to punt and watch Eli Manning lead a game-winning drive.
