After sitting out of Thursday practice with a sore right knee, second year running back Beanie Wells status for Game 1 is in doubt. He said the knee is “a lot better” but it would be the coach’s decision on whether he would play or not. With Tim Hightower continuing to improve both his running and receiving skills, coach Whisenhunt can afford to sit Wells for one game. His thought process is cautious saying, “What concerns me is I don’t want this to be something that in week 12 or week 13 or week 14 that you’re having issues with.” The play of LaRod Stephens-Howling and Jason Wright give Whisenhunt another reason to consider sitting Wells. Beanie led the team in rushing with 793 yards in 176 carries, an average of 4.5 yards per carry. Coming on strong in the latter half of the season, everyone started to see what he could do.
