Junior Galette says he has heard fans yelling ''fear the beard,'' when he has caused havoc in the New Orleans Saints' backfield during training camp.
Galette's prodigious facial hair has given the defensive end a vastly different look than when he arrived as a fresh-faced rookie in 2010. Saints coaches say they have also seen a difference in his play since he was signed as an undrafted free-agent out of Division II Stillman College.
Defensive line coach Bill Johnson says Galette has established himself as a productive player who will see regular time on the field this season, even if he is not a starter.
Galette's emergence comes as the Saints prepare for starter Will Smith's four-game bounty suspension.
Galette says his game is progressing and he will embrace whatever role the Saints give him.
