The deal: Seven years, $49.6 million, with $18.75 million guaranteed.
Reason he was a good signing: The Cowboys were panned for giving a big deal to Davis. The second overall pick in the 2001 draft, Davis had barely caused a ripple in six listless seasons with Arizona. He was better known for penalties (11 in his final season with the Cardinals) than his Pro Bowl appearances (none) while in Arizona.
How do you like him now?
Maybe it was the move to a winning club. Arizona never had a winning record in Davis' time, going 32-64 overall. The Cowboys have had three consecutive winning seasons with Davis, going 33-15 overall.
Maybe it was being involved in an offense that takes advantage of his athletic skills, remarkable for a man listed at 6-6 and 375 pounds, rather than asking him to take on a man-on-block on every play.
For whatever reason, Davis has bloomed with the Cowboys. Each of his three seasons has ended with a Pro Bowl appearance. A...
