Former Louisville running back Bilal Powell had the best game of his young NFL career this past Sunday for the New York Jets.
Powell rushed for 149-yards on 27 carries as the Jets defeated the Buffalo Bills 27-20.
He was named the starting running back for the Jets prior to the regular season, but most felt that it was strictly due to Chris Ivory’s nagging hamstring injury.
Regardless, Powell has defiantly made the most of his opportunity for an increased role.
“He is a physical runner,” Jets coach Rex Ryan said following Sunday’s game. “He might not be the fastest, he might not be the biggest or whatever, but he is just a good back. He runs hard. He really had a great day, he was breaking tackles.”
Powell proved to be a power runner with breakaway speed during his senior year at Louisville and now it’s starting to show at the next level. Of Powell’s 149 yards, 83 came after contact. Powell’s 114 yards after contact this season tie him with Seattle’s Marshawn Lynch for ninth in...
