The Buffalo Bills began a week's worth of practices for this weekend's game against the San Francisco 49ers without free safety Jairus Byrd on the field. Though the fourth-year safety missed a large chunk of the second half of Sunday's loss to New England with a hip pointer, head coach Chan Gailey told reporters that Byrd will likely be back to practice on Thursday and play on Sunday.

Also sitting for Buffalo on Wednesday were offensive linemen Cordy Glenn and Kraig Urbik, who are dealing with ankle sprains and are expected to miss at least two weeks each. Chris Hairston and Chad Rinehart will replace them in the starting lineup on Sunday. Veteran defensive tackle Spencer Johnson also missed practice on Wednesday.

Bills DT Johnson ruled out against 49ers

Buffalo Bills reserve defensive tackle Spencer Johnson has been ruled out from playing at San Francisco this weekend because of an ankle injury. Coach Chan Gailey made the announcement after Johnson missed his second straight practice Thursday. Gailey said Johnson was hurt but continued playing in a 52-28 loss to New England on Sunday. Gailey also said offensive linemen Cordy Glenn...

The good, the bad and the ugly for the Buffalo Bills

In order to avoid writing a thousand cogent words about the travesty that was Week 4 at Ralph Wilson Stadium, I beefed up on my western films. Mainly my favorite: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. It’s a common favorite, I realize, but it does have the single best climactic duel in cinematic history. Plus it has a seriously motivating soundtrack. I feel like I could draw a pistol...

Buffalo Bills injury update: Offensive line woes

The Buffalo Bills learned this week that both starting offensive linemen Cordy Glenn and Kraig Urbik will miss about two weeks with ankle sprains. Both men start at offensive line, so the Bills may be using more protection schemes to keep quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick upright.  One thing that could benefit the Bills would be a solid run attack, keeping the defense in run mode could...

Mario Williams still blaming his wrist for his slow start

After four games, Buffalo Bills defensive end Mario Williams only has 1.5 sacks as he continues to struggle with a wrist injury that’s been plaguing him since the preseason. “It’s just a little deal going on, but we’ve already mentioned that before,” Williams said, per USA Today. “It’s just lingering a little longer than I expected and I just (need to) get back out...

Bills Crash And Burn; Lose 52-28

Fitzpatrick throws four interceptions, defense gives up 247 rushing yards and Brady and company score on final 7 possessions In a game that would have put the Bills alone in first place of the AFC East, a game that would have been a huge stepping stone for the 2012 Buffalo Bills, a game that would have proved the haters wrong, the Bills reached the climax but it was still the...

The Buffalo Bills: still the “little brother” of the AFC East

Let’s just get it out of the way. Buffalo got embarrassed last week against the Patriots. I just want to take a few minutes to try and explain why fans are calling for Ryan Fitzpatrick, Chan Gailey, Buddy Nix, and even Mario Williams to get the axe. Fans are getting frustrated in Buffalo, despite the Bills being 2-2 and in the middle of the AFC East race. I’ll start with the...

Bills DT Williams fined by NFL for roughing Brady

Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Kyle Williams is questioning why he's been fined $15,000 by the NFL for a roughing the passer penalty against New England's Tom Brady. Williams revealed on Wednesday that he had been fined for a play that happened in the third quarter of a 52-28 loss to the Patriots on Sunday. Williams was flagged after he was knocked to the turf and his arm...

Buffalo Bills Injury Update

Five Buffalo Bills starters left their game on Sunday with injuries, and two players have already been ruled out for next game, according to The Buffalo News. Left tackle Cordy Glenn and right guard Kraig Urbik will miss Sunday's game in San Francisco with ankle injuries. The injuries could keep both Glenn and Urbik out of action for a few games. Tight end Scott Chandler...

Bills Injury Report: Mario Williams Slowed by Wrist Injury

The Buffalo Bills and defensive lineman Mario Williams haven’t gotten off to the start they wanted. While there are multiple issues plaguing the Bills, Williams has been slowed by a wrist injury, reports Gregg Rosenthal of NFL.com: "I'm a hands-on player and it's all about power in my game," Williams said via the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle...

Buffalo vs. New England: What's Changed Since Last Season

Change is too often no more than a well-sold wish, a dream advertised as reality that quickly becomes unraveled in the light of day.In Buffalo right now, it is this idea, this false hope inherent in the basic notion of change that has Bills fan feeling so much less fanatical after their 52-28 spanking Sunday against the New England Patriots. The Bills sold the a fantastic product...

Former Bills player, Whitner blames management for losses

Donte Whitner, the former Buffalo Bills safety, knows all to well what losing to Tom Brady and the New England Patriots feels like. According to SFGate.com, Whitner suggested the Bills’ problems went beyond their personnel when asked about Buffalo’s mindset after its 52-28 loss to the Patriots last week. “Their backs are against the wall, knowing those guys,” said Whitner...

Chick Fight: Clash of the Fans

Just when you thought the East Coast -West Coast battle ended with Tupac and Biggie, then came this week’s Chick Fight. In one corner, a die-hard female football fan with loads of “California Love” for her San Francisco 49ers. In the other corner, a Buffalo Bills believer who thinks QB Ryan Fitzpatrick “loves it when she calls him Big Poppa!” What never officially got...

Bills DT Kyle Williams Fined $15K For Hit On Patriots QB Tom Brady

Kyle Williams will be $15,000 lighter in the wallet Friday when the NFL does its weekly announcement of fines, and the Bills’ defensive tackle said he doesn’t understand what he did wrong. He knows he was flagged for a late hit on Tom Brady in last week’s 52-28 loss to New England, one that was dubious to begin with, and he really didn’t think he’d be fined. “I could understand...

The bye weeks begin: finding a week 5 fill in QB.

I’m responding to an email inquiry, in advance of the Thursday game again this week. With bye weeks starting this week (yes, we had a ‘mini bye’ last week) owners are faced with some difficult add/drop decisions for the first time this season. In an attempt to solve some of the problems, we’ll take a [...]
