Sadly for Bills LB Kawika Mitchell, it’s dejavu all over again.

On Friday, Buffalo placed Mitchell on injured reserve and for the second straight season, Mitchell lands on IR effectively ending his 2010 season and possibly his career in a Bills uniform.

Mitchell injured his foot in practice on Wednesday, and due to the Bills’ injury riddled linebacking core already, it became apparent that Buffalo simply couldn’t wait for Mitchell to return with a clean bill of health.  Already, Mitchell becomes the sixth player the Bills have placed on IR so far this season.

Durability had never been an issue with Mitchell before last season.  From 2004-2008, Mitchell played in at least 15 games each season, and from 2005-08 he played in all 16 games.  But now, however, combining last season and now this season coming up, Mitchell will have played only five games in two years.

Slated to be the backup to inside linebackers Andra Davis and Paul Posluszny, Mitchell was returning from a knee injury that cost him the final 11 games in 2009 after he landed on the IR.

Buffalo signed Mitchell to a five year deal worth $17.5 million in 2008.  The linebacker is slated to earn $2.75 million in each of the final two years of his contract, it’s very likely we’ve seen the last of Kawika Mitchell in Buffalo.
