The Buffalo Bills placed cornerback Terrence McGee and offensive tackle Erik Pears on injured reserve. The Bills were hoping McGee could return from a knee injury that has plagued him all season to provide a much-needed veteran presence to the secondary. Pears did not travel with the team to face the Houston Texans last Sunday due to a hip injury. One of the roster spots was filled by wide receiver Marcus Easley, who was promoted from the practice squad. Easley, a fourth-round pick out of UConn in 2010, was cleared to resume playing in February after treatment for a heart condition, but didn't make the season-opening roster. Easley spent all of 2011 on injured reserve after spending all of 2010 on IR with a knee injury. The Bills also released kicker John Potter. Wide receiver Chris Hogan was signed to the practice squad. Hogan, a 6-1, 220-pound Monmouth (N.J.) product entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with San Francisco in 2011. He spent a portion of 2011 on the Practice Squads of the New York Giants and Miami Dolphins.
