As I was walking to the bar to watch this game, I started to think to myself, "what would be worse, a blowout or a close loss?" That's pretty much what Bills/Pats games have become. Forget having a chance at winning. I remember last year after Buffalo beat them, I kind of felt that line of thinking would erase. Obviously, being 3-0 at the time was a big part of it. Alas, the season collapsed and so did that optimism against the Pats. In a way, I've hated that victory. What did it do for us in the long term? Absolutely nothing. So, we broke the streak and now we've lost 22 out of 24 games against them. It was great for one day, but wouldn't you wish it happened during a playoff year or maybe a win would have catapulted the Bills into something more special? So, because of the season collapsing and the Pats scoring a gazillion points against Buffalo recently, I decided to pick a blowout in terms of what I would rather witness. Personally, I can deal with anger well. I like it. I like being able to hate my team when they lose. It feels good to call my friends and vent about how ****** they are. A blowout would lead to that. However, I can't deal with being sad. I didn't want to go through another flashback of the McKelvin fumble or the Losman safety or the Brushci game. Those are the worst. Well, we can add the "Fred Jackson fumble" or "the penalties game" or "Fitzmagic turns to tragic". Pick your poison. This hurts. The sadness shocks us, yet within 30 seconds of it, you go "Oh, right. Because its Buffalo. We should be use to this." However, I'm not. I just can't deal with this crap. I had given up on this stupid team going into this game and was expecting a blowout. Yet, they gave a valiant effort.  To channel Whitney Houston, I really wanted to believe for one stupid moment in time that they were going to score on the last drive. I actually had the audacity to believe in them.  Silly me. The Pats are just better. Great teams like them always find ways to win while losing teams like the Bills find ways to lose (See: Penalties, throwing too much, turnovers, dropping interceptions and defense sucks). It is as simple as that. I just wish it was simple for me to get over losses like these. You'd think after so many heartbreakers, it would be. Other quick thoughts: ---I feel bad for Fitz. He played his best game in over a year. 337 yards on 27 of 40 passes for 2TDs and 1 costly pick. I know he's on borrowed time since Buddy said he wasn't going to leave the franchise without giving us a young QB (Couldn't you just leave and let a non-senior citizen run the team?), but he played gutsy today. He wouldn't die. He wouldn't let all of WNY begging for a new QB to get on his nerves. He's had a 10 day stretch in which his GM said twice on the air that Fitz wasn't good enough. Um, yeah, "GO OUT THERE AND WIN ONE FOR THE CITY/FRANCHISE THAT WANTS YOU GONE" He was probably the Bills offensive MVP today. At some points, you kind of felt he was earning his money. You felt that maybe we can win with this guy. Just maybe. He was making throws and I actually saw a down the field pass even. Alas, he made a mistake, albeit, TJ Graham was the main cause for it. Even still, it is just not meant to be for him here. We have already made up our minds that he shouldn't be our starting QB. Even if the Bills went 9-7, we would totally Bledsoe his ass out of here like in 2004. ---I agree, Spiller should get the ball more. He had 131 yards today on just 13 touches. 10 yards a pop. He should be getting the ball more. However, I'm sick and tired of hearing people try and run Fred Jackson into the ground by calling him out. I just can't handle it anymore. I get it, he fumbled twice today. I also think they were really good defensive plays. I understand we gravitate to the new hot guy like whores in high school do. However, I'm not treating Fred like a piece of **** or like he's Trent Edwards or JP Losman. He's a top back in the league. It shouldn't be a Jackson vs. CJ problem, it should be about a coach who lives and dies by the pass. Fitzpatrick dropped back to pass 46 times today!  So, in the last two weeks, we got 90 drop backs vs. 37 runs. Tell me how this is Fred's fault for getting too many carries. Even if Fred didn't play, they would mean 18 carries a game for Spiller. That's still not enough. BTW, Fred had 5 yards a carry. ---I'm going to have a piece up later this week about how I believe Dave Wannstedt may be the worst coordinator in Bills' history. You wanna complain about CJ's touches or Fitz not going deep, how about this historically bad defense? The Bills have four losses when they score 28 or more points this year. Find me a year that has ever happened to any franchise! The Pats have scored 92 points in their last 6 quarters against the Bills. Sure, they had a highlight or two (Dareus/Williams played well at times and Mario Williams woke up finally on the Pats last drive), but it wasn't enough. Last year, the Bills gave up 30 or more points seven times. This year...the number is at five already.  ---Shane Conlan and Gabe Northern are rolling over in their graves with these linebackers. I think I saw Nick Barnett cover Wes Welker today. That shouldn't happen. ---With three turnovers today, the Bills have committed turnovers in 23 of their last 24 games against New England. That's 67 turnovers over that stretch.  ---Guess who has the most carries this year for the Bills in one game? Tashard Choice with 20 against Cleveland. Chan Gailey, ladies and gentleman. ---I was ready for TBN Sports department and WGR to reenact Michael Jackson's "Beat It" video today on Twitter. I love media on media crime. ---Hey all you people who couldn't wait to see Ron Brooks play. Well, he got a 15-yard penalty which reminded me he was on the team. I salute draft experts everywhere for the hype (Middle finger extended). ---Maybe the refs cost the Bills some points, but you know what? You've sucked for so long that I don't feel like giving you the benefit of the doubt. Plus, 147 yards in penalties? Sorry, but that's not always the refs fault. ---I thought the Bills panicked at the end of the game. I get they had zero time outs because of injuries to Donald Jones and CJ Spiller. However, they still had 30 seconds left and inside the 20-yard line. All day long the Bills had chipped away at the Pats' defense with short passes and draws. You didn't have to get greedy there. You could have gotten closer without being desperate to goto the end zone. ---We call more shotgun than a truck driver's dog.  Get it.... Final word: So, where do we go from here? The Bills are 3-6 and now their schedule looks to get a little bit easier. Hey, the AFC sucks, right? We can just back our way into a playoff spot at 8-8 and rely on the mediocrity of the AFC. However, I think most of the good of this season is based on the poor defenses/offenses they are playing. If the Pats' defense isn't forcing turnovers, they are about as useless as **** on a boar. The Titans defense was ranked near the bottom when we faced them. The Browns and Chiefs suck. If you wanna take the Bills serious, you have to beat great or even good teams. You can't just rely on playing a terrible unit week in and week out. Maybe they have a shot. Miami got crushed today. The Jags stink. So do the Rams. The Jets are imploding. Alas, you could say the same about us at this point, right?
